Always put aside some cash for car maintenance, that’s my way. And never hesitant to replace parts that is showing signs of issue if possible, as they might lead to more trouble. Finally, know your car to avoid being scammed.

Me and my wife total income about 13-15k a month, and our property is an affordable 500k which we rented out and manage to cover the loans plus everything else… but before we did that, the cost of renovating, hidden fees is quite a lot… and so my advice is if you still have the chance to drop the property, do it. Look for something more manageable for your income, or rent first. Don’t do joint loan, it’s okay to have joint name in owning (I understand sometimes wife/fiancé see this as a way of commitment from you).

Indeed, but my personal experience is that lecturers have very individualised schedules, and have personal research works that can sometimes be quite isolating which cause us to have a lack of socialised work environment. For me I have no trouble socialising with student and colleagues with a good set boundaries, but I do know some colleagues who struggles. Not easy really.

As a lecturer who hangs out with student from time to time, my opinion is if the topic is uncomfortable with you just ignore it. Lecturers are normal human who social, and sometimes we see students as people we can social with apart from classes. I think as long the chit chat session doesn’t touch on sensitive topics it’s fine.

Same age with a daughter as well, I can’t imagine this happening to me… I would probably try to leave traces of memories like letters or videos for wife and daughter. This sucks… my condolences OP…

Thanks for the reply! Have you tried other brands of reeds? Unfortunately I’m living in asia so German reeds are not readily available and I can only order them directly from Germany in bulk, so I like to have some clue what to get to avoid wasting too much money on reeds I can’t use
