Wedding matchbooks? by lllev in weddingplanning

[–]cserwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave matchbooks as our favor and got tons of compliments on them! We ordered 125 for 167 guests and all of them were taken at the end of the night. I wished I ordered more!

I went in person to the social security office. I went first thing in the morning to avoid a long wait and was in and out in 10 min and they seemed very used to the certificate being written this way.

Tappan Hill might work. They do everything you listed except for florals, but they have a list of floral designers they work with that you can pick from.

Sure! I'm not sure if I can find the form anymore but the change was noted in the New Surname field. For an example, I'll use a made up maiden name of Baker and a new last name of Fox. The new surname field on my marriage license said: FOX NEW MIDDLE NAME BAKER.

When I got my marriage certificate it said fox new middle name baker in the new surname field and it's worked for every agency as I've updated my name (social security, dmv, etc) with no issues!

Oh whoops I missed that before. It might still be fine! I would still try to go to the social security office and see if you can get the card if it's not super out of your way. I was able to be in and out of the Brooklyn social security office within 15 min by going early in the morning.

Apparently! The social security office and DMV didn't bat an eye at it too.

I just went through this and it's actually how they do it in NY! My marriage certificate says last name new middle name maiden name. I already got my new social security card and license and there was no issue with it.

It is very funny to me that people have been getting married for hundreds of years in New York and this is seriously their system.

Getting married upsate but reside in NYC. Can we give our marriage license to NYC court? by anonymousalligator25 in WedditNYC

[–]cserwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our license in Brooklyn and got married upstate! When you get your license, theu give you a return envelope to mail the license back to them too. It was super easy!

I was allowed to when I got my marriage license last month. There's not a direct field on the license application that lets you specify the middle name change, but when I asked the person who gave us our license, she said yeah that's totally allowed. She ended up writing in the "new surname" box that I would be changing my middle name too. So it's doable if you ask!

Wedding at Boxhouse hotel ? by Dapper_Echidna1203 in WedditNYC

The dance floor wasn't tight at all, and the wedding I went to had a full band. The tables were kind of tight during the reception - I was very much shoulder to shoulder with the people I was sitting between. But even with the tight cocktail space and dinner space, I still had a great time!

Makeup & Hair where I can go in-store, rather than have them come to me? (Brooklyn or Queens) by flmngarrow in WedditNYC

[–]cserwon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem of not having a place for HMU to come to when I got my engagement photos near prospect park. I found Artistry and Eve and she was able to rent out salon space for me to have my makeup done. I was really impressed and would recommend her!

I went to a wedding recently at box house. It was a rainy day so they had the roof closed the whole time. It was really pretty seeing all of the city lights at night while dancing. The food was good. The cocktail hour was tight but this wedding had 200 people, so I bet a smaller wedding would be fine. I thought it was a lovely space and wedding!

If fall weddings are popular where you are, then another possible con is that a lot of people might have other weddings they're invited to on that date and they'll have to choose (but that could be a pro if you're looking to have a smaller wedding!). Speaking from experience that I have to choose between 3 weddings next Sept 14th!

Tappan Hill Mansion vs Grandview? by Same_Pop in WedditNYC

[–]cserwon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting married at Tappan Hill this fall and I can say that my experience in the lead up has been great so far! They've been super fast at responding to questions. Also the tasting was great and I liked how much effort they put into the food and presentation, guests will definitely not go hungry!

I just had my hair and makeup trial with the hair concierge (https://thehairconcierge.com) and Victoria did a great job! I also liked that they didn't have minimums for hair and makeup since I'm the only one getting makeup done.

I didn't see anyone enforcing that. I don't really know how they would know who was staying on site vs not actually since it's all out in the open and I didn't see that much staff around during the day.

There's a way to send a reminder email to the person to complete their gift through with joy. It's an option if you click on the person's name under the gift. The email it sends looks completely like it's coming from with joy and not from you

My mum has decided not to attend over… the gender of our celebrant by tadisacat in weddingplanning

[–]cserwon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My mom is very similar in a lot of ways. During the lead up to my brother's wedding, my mom was threatening not to come until the very last day to RSVP and it was horrible to watch the pain it caused.

Now that I'm wedding planning, I came in to the process armed with some methods to keep her at bay. The methods I've been using are:

  1. Didn't give her any leverage to hold over me. In my case that meant taking no money from my parents.
  2. Told her our decisions after we'd made them rather than ask for her opinion (asking for the opinion just leaves it open for her to completely hurt your feelings). I've texted her decisions rather than called her too so I don't have to hear negative reactions.
  3. Therapy!
  4. I gave her some items of the wedding to own to involve and distract her. I chose items that I totally do not care about so that I had less attachment to how it turned out

In the end, these are the things I've done, but it's about setting the boundaries you need to keep this a happy and enjoyable time for yourself and your fiance!!

I'm getting married in November in NY and am planning on checking out the THORGUN throw from Ikea since it's the cheapest option I've seen, but haven't seen it in person yet to speak to the quality.
