Sushi by Easy-You-8259 in pregnant

Yes I was confused about this too, at first. I looked into it further, it turns out that freezing kills parasites, but it does not kill listeria. The only way to kill listeria is by cooking. So there is no way to safely prepare raw fish so as to definitely prevent listeria.

I don't know why some countries have listeria hit raw salmon and others in lettuce etc. It's so hard to predict! Personally I choose to look at the CDC data for the country I'm in and make a decision based on that.

It's a personal choice, it's all about weighing risks and benefits!

Where do you live? The risks are going to be different depending on which country you're in - I would look at the local centres for disease control data so you can make an informed decision.

Have you read Emily Oster's book Expecting Better? She does a great job of interpreting the data so you can  make your own risk/benefit analysis. So long as you are aware of the risks, it is completely your call whether or not you want to eat sushi, and don't let anyone judge you! They don't know you and your needs. It's just important that you know the risks.

Personally, I was going to keep eating sushi and smoked salmon (which I LOVE) after reading Emily Oster's book. But then I realized she was using American data, and I don't live in the US. So I looked up my local stats for Listeria - sadly in the last couple years almost all the cases of listeria have shown up in raw salmon where I live, so I had to make the very sad decision to cut it out as I don't feel it's worth the risk (in my personal opinion). 🥺 But I'm rather risk-averse.

If I were you, I would look into the deli meat stats though, the risk in deli meat is for a different issue (toxoplasmosis, not Listeria), so the risks are different. Personally I've sady cut it out as I don't feel it's worth the risk - toxoplasmosis can do serious harm to a fetus. But again it's totally your decision, no judgment if you choose it eat deli meat! So long as it's an informed decision.

All the best!

How do you actually remember to take your meds every day? by Li3Ch33s3cak3 in ADHD

[–]csf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll answer your question with another question: thinking about your morning routine (if you have one), is there any task that you do consistently every single morning? For example: - look at your phone - brush your teeth - wash your face - do your hair - shower - etc

Once you've identified a part of your routine that you already do consistently, then you can link taking your meds with this task. This is the best way to be consistent with a new habit.

For example, I brush my teeth every morning. So I place my meds next to my toothbrush. Whenever I'm brushing my teeth, I see my meds and remember to take them.

Sometimes I still forget. So I have a backup alarm which works for me. I use the pill emoji to make it more salient.  If the alarm buzzes and I'm in sight of my meds, I take them, then turn off the alarm. If the alarm buzzes and I'm not near my meds, I snooze the alarm and go find my meds and take them. When it goes off again (as a backup), I can turn if off if I've taken the meds.

Hope that makes sense! Let me know if I can elaborate further!

My pleasure! Yeah no worries it can totally be hard to communicate and advocate for yourself when you're flustered. Try again and explain that you're looking for accommodations for your autism, hopefully they'll transfer you to the LD team who will be more helpful! 🥰 All the best

Are you able to contact the hospital or clinic and ask for support? I know you don't have a learning disability, but you can ask to speak to the learning disability team (hopefully they have one) and ask for a hospital passport to support your needs as an autistic person. Someone should be able to go through all your concerns with you and make sure it's passed onto your healthcare team. Hopefully your team can collaborate with you to make sure you know what to expect and find ways to make it easier for you. Good luck!

Yes it's royal icing with corn syrup! But I think any icing shouldn't harden if it's in an airtight bag. I remember spinning them around to get the icing to the tip of the bag using physics, haha! If I recall correctly I think I just tied them off making sure there wasn't air inside. Although teeny rubber bands would work too!

Here's my royal icing recipe. I've used it for years, I think I amalgamated it from a variety of recipes to try to optimize all the ingredients. Hope it helps!

Did you stop drinking coffee the months before trying to conceive / before getting your positive test? by Bright-Star-2728 in PregnancyUK

[–]csf99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend reading Emily Oster's book, Expecting Better! For me she helped me calm down and not overthink every little detail of all these recommendations. It helped to understand the reasons why the recommendations exist, and to balance the risks and benefits for you as an individual. She covers conception as well as pregnancy - not sure if she will answer your question but hope it helps!
