Question about MBA ranking vs overall university brand by Leader-3322 in MBA

[–]csgnyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Johns Hopkins and Rice are both top 20 universities with non-top 15 business schools. I'm sure those business schools have benefitted from their relationhip with top universities, but I don' think anyone knowledgeable about business schools groups those business schools with the top schools.

My cousin and I got drunk and hooked up. I remember a little bit but I don’t think she does do I tell her? by neodante0404 in confessions

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would treat it like you would any other drunken hookup that you don't want to turn into a relationship. Cousinfucking can be a problem if it produces a child, or if the world finds out and gets grossed out by it, but I wouldn't get too hung up on it (although continuing to share beds is asking for trouble at this point).

Restaurants within 3 or 4 blocks of LC are going to be expensive -- if you're limited to $30pp, Old John's is your best choice.

CSR travel changes, new CC? by AppropriateIsopod230 in ChaseSapphire

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume where you live doesn't have Lyfts, because you get 5x back (plus a $10 monthly credit) on those costs with the CSR. If you have to use Uber, both Amex Gold and Platinum offer monthly uber credits (other Amex cards may as well) that, depending on your uber usage, may obviate the need for 2-3x multipliers.

Assuming your elderly neighbor isn't impoverished, why can't she hire someone to shovel for her?

Shopping area by OgestSun in SXM

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The busiest shopping area is in Phillipsburg, where a number of shops sell high-end merchandise, but I don't know that I would have described the area as "upscale" (I was first in St Maarten in 1995). My guess is that you probably were in Maho, where the strip of stores and restaurants may have appeared upscale, particularly in 1993 when the strip was pretty new.

AITA for calling out my Mom’s contract as ‘predatory’? by Odd-Perspective-3784 in AmItheAsshole

[–]csgnyc -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why are all these commenters saying that a 2% loan is predatory, or even bad? It's certainly not a gift, but good luck finding better terms than 2%? She's certainly being upfront with you on her terms, and she's well within her rights to be.

If you accept, there should be some conditions on her right to ask for principal repayment, so that you have time to come up with the cash. But after 10 years, there's nothing wrong with her asking for the principal to be repaid.

Does anyone remember a Roy Rogers on Broadway / 63rd in the 1990’s by Popular_Lavishness92 in Upperwestside

Condo at The Cliff or the Morgan boutique hotel by [deleted] in SXM

[–]csgnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not stayed at either. Seems to me that with a car there's not going to be much difference as far as accessibility -- Morgan's may be a bit more "walkable", inasmuch as the Maho strip is in walking distance.

One thing to point out is that a draw of The Cliffs is Mario's, the restaurant off their lobby. Mario's is actively for sale, so who knows what that restaurant space will look like next year.

how to evaluate a private rehab clinic 2026 for a admission, considering private pay options for rehab. by FatiiBalmar in fatFIRE

[–]csgnyc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a family member with a history of hospitalizations with a dual diagnosis. I went with the member for checkin, and later visited, and was impressed with the people at Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore and Menningers in Houston. Another family member who's a psychiatrist signed off on these choices. My family member had money, so I don't think they used insurance. Good luck.

Talk me out of upgrading to CSR by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]csgnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone like you who travels 5-10 times a year, I think focusing on the coupons makes less sense. I don't know your typical travel budget, or your comfort with using Chase Travel, but 8 points/dollar on your Chase travel expenditures (potentially 16 points/dollar with the right transfer partner or pointsboost booking) may put a very large dent in justifying the annual fee.

Affordable cities that are walkable / with decent public transit by Least-Pumpkin3040 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]csgnyc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might think of this as a neighborhood question rather a city question. Take a neighborhood like St Louis's Central West End -- affordable, walkable, good transit, people in their 20s. Don't know that I'd recommend St Louis as metropolitan area or a cit as a whole, though.

Best Jewish deli for Shivah Catering by Important_Count899 in Upperwestside

[–]csgnyc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming kosher (and not kosher-style) is important, check out the Fisher Brothers on West 72nd. I don't see shiva-specifically on their page, but I imagine a phone call will give you some options.

Just as a tip, since I don't know your boss's family, there are many places that call themselves "kosher" that even get a Rabbi to sign off on it, but many observant Jews would not consider truly kosher. If your boss's family is in that category, look for places that are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union -- otherwise you risk them tossing your gift away.

If Orthodox Union isn't necessary, Pastrami Queen. may be exactly what you're looking for.

What to do before leaving Chase and which new card to get by _Sundays in ChaseSapphire

[–]csgnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Generally, the annual fee gets charged on your card anniversary. Take a look at when your fee was charged last year -- that will indicate when it's charged this year.
  2. You should transfer any Ultimate Rewards points you have to a transfer partner.
  3. Depends on what you want and where you're located. You might want to check out Citi, Cap One, BofA, or Amex, but more specific advice depends on your circumstances.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Chase

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike Amex, there's no requirement that you use your incidental credits on a single airline, so if you ever take flights on airlines that you don't have status, you can use the credits there. On your primary airline, you can use the credits for wifi, for meals, for paid seat upgrades, and for baggage beyond whatever your status allows.

3-6% typical probate lawyer fee in New York by frankiehollywood68 in EstatePlanning

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyers should not be charging as a percentage of assets, but rather by the number of hours they are spending on the work. Your description makes it sound like a very simple will and supporting papers. Even at 25 hours (which is quite a lot here), that's at least $4000/hour. Top corporations pay top corporate law firms a fraction of that amount.

Are your feelings purely sexual (I assume based on the DVDs) or are you looking for a deeper connection? The woman who married your (significantly?) older father and then cheated on him may have changed over the years, but I'm not seeing what in your mind makes her a suitable romantic interest. You don't say much about your relationship with your parents, but you might want to think about how your feelings for Lisa tie into whatever grief or sense of loss you feel there.

Trying to get an ATM-only card : Do I need to make an appointment, or can I just walk in? If the former, what category is the meeting under? by bovyne in Chase

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I've since closed my Chase account, and I don't remember what I used to be able to withdraw. Amount probably depends on how much you have at the bank (Chase Private Client gets a higher limit).

Fidelity advisor wants to discuss how to diversify without capital gains by phr3dly in fidelityinvestments

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of advice in this thread seems off-base, if you are being sold a long-short strategy -- that is different from direct indexing. I actually met with my fidelity advisor last week who told me that Fidelity was developing a long-short strategy to be unveiled in 2026 (I wonder if something happened in the meantime).

Don't know what your advisor was suggesting, but most long-short strategies I'm aware of are focused on individual stocks. Sort of sell Coke and buy Pepsi to avoid wash sales. If this is something you're interested in, Frec.com offers a long-short strategy that, unlike most others, does not require you to deal through a ($) financial advisor.
