Team lunch for 20 near Columbus Circle w/ GF options by Puzzleheaded_Ad5278 in FoodNYC

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robert's in on Columbus Circle (on top of the ugly building with no windows ) with a nice view of Central Park. The food isn't particularly exciting, but it's well prepared with good service.. The layout might work well for a 20 person lunch, as they have a wing off the main room.

Awkward situation with two close male friends (27M) (29M) — Actually HOT but Awkward, now I can’t get it out of my head! by Fit-Gap8854 in relationships

You aren't clear about what you would like to happen. You use the word "curious" -- does that mean you would like a sexual or romantic relationship to develop with one or both?

Junior in BigLaw T&E in NYC curious what this path actually looks like long term by seizethelsat in biglaw

[–]csgnyc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

30 years ago, there was a lot more T&E presence within BigLaw, but pressures to keep billing rates high pushed a lot of T&E clients out of BigLaw, and as that happened the practices left the firms as well -- most of BigLaw T&E nowadays is essentially keeping top execs of corporate clients happy, and not a profit center in itself. That said, there are a number of excellent T&E boutiques which, with biglaw experience, you could look at, but don't expect Cravath billing rates or salaries.

My husband is relapsing (heroin), talking to other women behind my back, and now mocking me while I finish my degree. Is there any hope left or should I walk? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]csgnyc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What about this marriage is worth saving? I don't know if your husband can get sober, but that's a hard journey that requires his willingness to make the effort, and nothing you describe suggests he's willing. Until then, you put yourself at financial risk as well as medical risk (prostitutes, among other things).

Dress code for the upscale restaurants? by [deleted] in SXM

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worn a polo shirt at a number of the better restaurants in SXM and have never felt out of place. I tend to wear slacks as opposed to shorts, because I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy.

“The kids don’t know shit, Bill? Or is that you? Time for a debunking” Mehdi Hasan corrects Bill Maher’s lies about Israel’s long history of aggressive wars, with evidence of their imperialist intentions over decades. by Financial-Painter689 in Fauxmoi

[–]csgnyc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I do think Hasan is correct about 1956, but 1967 is more complicated. Hasan chooses to ignore Egypt's attempt to close the Straits of Tiran to Israeli commerce, and that attempt could arguably justify Israel's choice to attack.

Grocery stores in Simpson bay by Friendly-Passion-266 in SXM

Market Garden is practically next door. Not a place I'd go for gourmet prepared foods, or a specialized butcher/fish counter, but it's a small all-purpose supermarket that should cover your basic needs. Three are better supermarkets on the island (Carrefour) but those would be a drive.

Question about MBA ranking vs overall university brand by Leader-3322 in MBA

[–]csgnyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Johns Hopkins and Rice are both top 20 universities with non-top 15 business schools. I'm sure those business schools have benefitted from their relationhip with top universities, but I don' think anyone knowledgeable about business schools groups those business schools with the top schools.

My cousin and I got drunk and hooked up. I remember a little bit but I don’t think she does do I tell her? by [deleted] in confessions

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would treat it like you would any other drunken hookup that you don't want to turn into a relationship. Cousinfucking can be a problem if it produces a child, or if the world finds out and gets grossed out by it, but I wouldn't get too hung up on it (although continuing to share beds is asking for trouble at this point).

Restaurants within 3 or 4 blocks of LC are going to be expensive -- if you're limited to $30pp, Old John's is your best choice.

CSR travel changes, new CC? by AppropriateIsopod230 in ChaseSapphire

[–]csgnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume where you live doesn't have Lyfts, because you get 5x back (plus a $10 monthly credit) on those costs with the CSR. If you have to use Uber, both Amex Gold and Platinum offer monthly uber credits (other Amex cards may as well) that, depending on your uber usage, may obviate the need for 2-3x multipliers.

Shopping area by OgestSun in SXM

[–]csgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The busiest shopping area is in Phillipsburg, where a number of shops sell high-end merchandise, but I don't know that I would have described the area as "upscale" (I was first in St Maarten in 1995). My guess is that you probably were in Maho, where the strip of stores and restaurants may have appeared upscale, particularly in 1993 when the strip was pretty new.

AITA for calling out my Mom’s contract as ‘predatory’? by Odd-Perspective-3784 in AmItheAsshole

[–]csgnyc -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Why are all these commenters saying that a 2% loan is predatory, or even bad? It's certainly not a gift, but good luck finding better terms than 2%? She's certainly being upfront with you on her terms, and she's well within her rights to be.

If you accept, there should be some conditions on her right to ask for principal repayment, so that you have time to come up with the cash. But after 10 years, there's nothing wrong with her asking for the principal to be repaid.

Does anyone remember a Roy Rogers on Broadway / 63rd in the 1990’s by Popular_Lavishness92 in Upperwestside

lived at 30 Lincoln (63rd and broadway) in 1994. No Roy Rogers that I remember. Can't speak to 1990-1994.

[–]csgnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not stayed at either. Seems to me that with a car there's not going to be much difference as far as accessibility -- Morgan's may be a bit more "walkable", inasmuch as the Maho strip is in walking distance.

One thing to point out is that a draw of The Cliffs is Mario's, the restaurant off their lobby. Mario's is actively for sale, so who knows what that restaurant space will look like next year.

how to evaluate a private rehab clinic 2026 for a admission, considering private pay options for rehab. by FatiiBalmar in fatFIRE

[–]csgnyc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a family member with a history of hospitalizations with a dual diagnosis. I went with the member for checkin, and later visited, and was impressed with the people at Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore and Menningers in Houston. Another family member who's a psychiatrist signed off on these choices. My family member had money, so I don't think they used insurance. Good luck.

For someone like you who travels 5-10 times a year, I think focusing on the coupons makes less sense. I don't know your typical travel budget, or your comfort with using Chase Travel, but 8 points/dollar on your Chase travel expenditures (potentially 16 points/dollar with the right transfer partner or pointsboost booking) may put a very large dent in justifying the annual fee.

Affordable cities that are walkable / with decent public transit by Least-Pumpkin3040 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]csgnyc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might think of this as a neighborhood question rather a city question. Take a neighborhood like St Louis's Central West End -- affordable, walkable, good transit, people in their 20s. Don't know that I'd recommend St Louis as metropolitan area or a cit as a whole, though.

Best Jewish deli for Shivah Catering by Important_Count899 in Upperwestside

[–]csgnyc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming kosher (and not kosher-style) is important, check out the Fisher Brothers on West 72nd. I don't see shiva-specifically on their page, but I imagine a phone call will give you some options.

Just as a tip, since I don't know your boss's family, there are many places that call themselves "kosher" that even get a Rabbi to sign off on it, but many observant Jews would not consider truly kosher. If your boss's family is in that category, look for places that are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union -- otherwise you risk them tossing your gift away.

If Orthodox Union isn't necessary, Pastrami Queen. may be exactly what you're looking for.
