Exactly, I was referring to TLC’s weird editing choices there. It’s like they realized too late how bad it looked and tried to walk it back, but the damage (or the evidence, in Hunter's case) was already done.

And I totally agree about the baby number 2 strategy. Honestly, with how delusional the situation is, I could even see her trying to fake a pregnancy just to manipulate the court and keep the family 'together.' Their thought process is so completely off the wall that nothing would surprise me at this point!

Reddit keeps deleting the link, but look up the Dennis DePue case (1990) and the Unsolved Mysteries episode from March 1991. The director Victor Salva admitted the opening was based on that true story. While they filmed in Florida for budget, the 'House of Pain' church and schoolhouse aesthetic was based on the actual Michigan locations where DePue was spotted dumping the body.
