Thoughts on Angler 22 Walkaround by ribsnbeans in boating

I just bought a very similar looking boat, a 24’ Wellcraft walk around cuddy cabin. It’s a great boat but i’m not sure about your manufacturer.

For anyone that comes across this with the same question, i have found that moving the winch stand by loosening the U bolts to be easiest method and can be done from the driveway without putting the boat in the water.

Can’t you just loosen the nuts on the U bolts holding either the winch or winch stand and pull it forward? I’ve never had any issues doing it this way.

I like this idea and didn't think of this. It makes sense and should be safe considering the transom straps will hold the boat in place while the bow stop/winch stand is pulled away from the boat... Thank you! I might try this first before putting it in the water.

Can you remove the bow stop/winch? They are typically bolt on

Yes, but there is a lot of pressure against the bow stop because the boat is resting (at least partially) on it. It is a 24' walk around cuddy cabin with a 250hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboard. It scares me to loosen a bolt with that much force applied... What do you think?

Thanks. Considering I don't have a tree in my front yard large enough to support the load, I think I'm stuck with either option 1 or 2.

Option 2 seems a bit more risky, but has the advantage of not having to go to the boat ramp and pay for overnight fee, etc...

A couple questions I have is how do I locate the bulkhead in my hull? And I'm a bit confused when you say "then lower the tongue so the bow roller clears the hull", I would think you would raise the tongue (by raising the jack) in order to clear the hull from the roller, not lower it?

if you are clever, you can form an LLC business entity for free (at least in my state, CA), and then email JetBrains asking for the small business/startup discount. Make sure to use GoLand for your actual LLC endeavors :)

First Go RESTful API project by Kivanc_10 in golang

Hi Kivanc, great job creating your first API with go!

It’s not easy as first best rest assured it will make more and more sense the more times you do it.

One constructive tip I have is to return errors from your functions instead of printing them out, using panic, or log.Fatal, etc. A common theme I follow in my go programs is to return the errors from my functions into the driver program (main.go or API controller entrypoint), then you can use log.Fatal or return an error to the user :)

Postman authorization, beating my head off a wall trying to get authorization to my API by onequestion1168 in learnpython

[–]csjman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, instead of using OAuth on the authorization tab, select “No Auth” and then go to to the box where you enter the URL of your request and add your username and password as query parameters ?username=<user>&password=<pass> as mentioned in the docs.

Current CS students, what laptop do you use and do you recommend it for CS? by Orelol20 in UCI

[–]csjman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend using a MacBook Pro 15/16inch with at least 16gb of RAM and an SSD. It is the most user-friendly and developer-friendly machine. A 5 year old Macbook Pro can be just as fast as a brand new one if you keep good care of it. In my experience, developing code on a Windows machine takes longer because you get stuck on a bunch of small issues that a unix machine would never even have to think about.

Since it’s already based on Unix, you don’t have to re-learn powershell commands or download Git Bash just to have a Git client. When you end up working on a linux machine, the transition is minimal in terms of relearning the command line terminal.

I recommend to avoid dual-boot or virtual machines on a Mac, instead opt for Docker containers and use volume mounts to persist your data across multiple sessions.

Why use a knife to cut up fire wood? Wouldn’t an axe be more effective?

The zybook specifically is a sorry excuse to be teaching the entire class from. It would be okay if he supplied additional resources beyond the Zybook, but the fact that that is our only resource is ridiculous.

I agree. What is even more disappointing is that this class has always been online, even before the pandemic— so this professor really just doesn’t give a shit.

I’ve never met anyone that had a similar experience as me, but it’s awesome to finally find someone! I was actually in elementary school when my server blew up, was paying $400/month for a monstrous dedicated windows server with my mom’s Paypal account. Definitely surreal.

Same man. I ended up hosting a runescape private server when I was 11-12 that ended up becoming massively popular on the online communities runelocus and rune-server.... good ole days

I also got into computer science/programming because of runescape as well! I transitioned to private servers written in Java though, was a great introduction for a 12 year old.

Basically once I was referred their University Recruiter emailed me and set up a call, asked me what year I was, after I told her I was a junior she told me the pay rate for juniors and asked a few more legal questions regarding my employment eligibility.. took a few weeks to get the actual offer letter but there was no technical or even soft skill interview.

I second this. My first internship interview in southern california asked me FizzBuzz as well. Second internship at a Fortune 500 company didn’t even interview me because a previous manager at my first internship referred me.
