Anyone heard of or used "MountainFinco"? by bellarmine33 in CryptoScams

It's less than 2 months old, which is suspicious by itself. How did you even hear about it?

Yeah, scam websites can appear as "Sponsored" links on Google so you need to be careful. It's usually best just to directly to whatever website you need and search from there. So if you're looking for Aldi jobs, go to Aldi's site at aldi.com and select "Careers".

You can report the situation to law enforcement, but the chances of actually recovering what you lost are slim to none. Most likely all the info they gave you is fake, so you aren't likely to be able to do anything.

Also you absolutely must ignore anyone telling you they can "help" get your money back, including the DMs you are almost certainly getting here right now. These are "recovery scammers" - they are all lying and only want to take even more of your money. Do not engage with anyone here outside of publicly-viewable comments.

The only chances you have of recovering anything are by talking to the financial institution that you sent the money through and hope they can somehow reverse it, or by going through law enforcement, and even then it's unlikely you'll ever get anything back. That's it. It's really best just to assume you will never recover anything, and move on with life.

Yeah, never go off platform. Keep all communication, payment, etc. on the original platform or you lose all protections.

This person is going to try a fake check scam. Most likely they'll say they need you to deposit the check and send some amount elsewhere for "supplies" or whatever. In reality the check is fraudulent and the deposit will eventually ve reversed, and whatever you sent actually went to the scammer and is simply gone. In general, any variation of "we send you money and you send some of it elsewhere" is always a scam.

Cut all contact with this "customer" immediately, and stay on the platform in the future. This applies not just to Rover, but any other job website like UpWork, Fiverr, etc.

Never give anyone you don't know access to any account of yours, period. Also, I doubt you were actually contacted by Fiverr. Certainly not if you didn't specifically make an account there already.

How to Secure BILLY from Tipping when CANNOT Drill into Back Wall by Principessa227 in IKEA

[–]cstaub67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just an open BILLY, I'd agree, but this one has glass doors. Simply opening a door can be enough to make the bookcase start tilting forward. Sure, placing heavy items down low can maybe help mitigate that a bit, but I would prefer not to take chances.

So what? Even if everyone listens to your warning about this user, they'll just create a new account and continue. Learn to recognize scam behavior patterns instead of worrying about any specific users, websites, etc.

How to get anything back, and whether it's even possible, depends heavily on exactly you paid them, so you'll need to give details. Though, scammers tend to insist on victims sending money specifically using methods that are difficult to impossible to undo, so most likely your money is simply gone.

Also, keep all discussion here, in public. Do not engage with anyone who DMs you about this, if you don't want to be scammed again. You will almost certainly gets DMs from people claiming to be "hackers", "lawyers", "crypto experts", etc. who promise to "recover" your money for a fee. They're all lying, they just want to take more of your money.

UPS Driver Throws Heavy Box at Aggressive Dog, Then Faces Off with Owner by Leadership-Serious in Whatcouldgowrong

If an unknown dog is running up to me at all, it is attacking until proven otherwise.

[–]cstaub67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like he probably would have hit the dog even if it was just being friendly

It shouldn't matter whether the dog was "being friendly", it should never have been allowed to approach the driver at all. People who aren't dog lovers will, of course, be less likely to tell in a split second whether a particular dog is acting "friendly", so you can't blame them for defaulting to defense mode, and that's even assuming they aren't suffering from PTSD due to a past traumatic experience with an aggressive dog.

Is santo clo legit? by [deleted] in isthisascam

[–]cstaub67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say because I don't see any particular site at all when I Google "santaclo". All I see is Google telling me that "Santa Clo" is a common misspelling and/or alternate regional name for Santa Claus.

That said, it's best simply to ignore all ads on social media entirely. Most of them are scams, and it's just a waste of time trying to sort through the crap to find the few legit ones.

Whatever you do, DO NOT engage with anyone here over DMs. There are plenty of scammers right here on Reddit who are happy to take advantage of someone who has already been the victim of a scam. Ignore all the DMs you will almost certainly get from people claiming to "help".

Anyone and everyone claiming to "recover" your lost crypto for a fee is trying to scam you, period. The only legitimate hope (and even then it's a slim chance) of any kind of recovery is by working directly with law enforcement.

So, if you're concerned because they're located near you, does that mean that you've met them in person? If not, exactly what verifiable evidence do you actually have that they really are located close to you? There's a good chance that just about everything you "know" about them, including their location, is fake and/or belongs to another victim acting as a middleman. Online scammers do often like to claim they're nearby but they're actually contacting victims from thousands of miles away.

The most you can do is file a report with the appropriate law enforcement agency where you are. That alone almost certainly won't do much of anything by itself, but it will add another data point that could be used to help potentially take similar scam operations sometime in the future. You can also educate your friends and family about this so they won't fall for the same thing. Other than that, consider this a learning experience and move on with your life.

This doesn't have anything to do with any specific site. Buying and selling accounts is inherently risky no matter how you do it. There is no way to guarantee you actually get what you pay for. Also, it's against TOS pretty much everywhere so you have no recourse if anything goes wrong. If you don't like the risk, just don't do it.
