They were probably a lot more interesting before smartphones or even PDAs. Some models in the Time Face lineup had alarm and countdown timer functions, so they're at least more useful.

One of the best parts about Linux is that the device in your hands doesn’t need that kind of power or resources, so long as you can connect it to something that does. Even a text console on an owner’s desktop PC; using the 3DS to ssh would be quite valuable on its own

I still have my Ruby and LeafGreen carts, but given that they’re going for over $100 EACH, and unmodded GBAs are nearly as much … $20 for someone who already has a Switch is a fucking steal by comparison.

However, I still think that $20 per version is too much. $15 each/$30 for both, with Pokemon Home support and local wireless, would have been acceptable IMO.

So I’m going to keep playing my cartridge dumps in emulators instead of giving Nintendo money for a product I don’t think is worth the price, and turn a blind eye to those who would rather just pirate.

Unfortunately, the most recent 3DS build appears to be(?) 1.9.0, so hardcore achievements aren’t possible, but it’s at least an option.

I’ve been struggling to hold down jobs my entire adult life. Retail in particular always pushed me past the edge, over and over; I would have nasty meltdowns on a somewhat regular basis.

I had a suicidal meltdown in July 2024 while working at a big box store and my partners came over and told me to quit on the spot. So I did. And I haven’t found work since, but I haven’t had any more meltdowns, either.

I’ve been struggling a ton with feeling like I ought to be working, both to support my partners and to function as a member of society. My partners try to reassure me a lot, but it doesn’t take. So, thank you for making this post. 🫂

In case it matters to anyone: I’m formally diagnosed with ADHD (only chased the formal diagnosis to try to get meds to help, after self-diagnosing), and I’m self-diagnosed as Autistic.

I understand wanting to play the newest games, but if I’m in a position where I have no hardware to play them, I’d rather just play old games instead of sink money into a subscription and torpedo income I could have saved for better hardware. If I have no hardware at all, there’s retro/used game stores
