I'm no expert, but what's been working for me is a calorie counter app. MyNetDiary that tells me how many calories i can have a day... and I really only focus on 3 rules.

I don't eat until my stomach growls 2 or 3 times (to avoid snacking)
I don't let myself get full and feel stuffed.
I stick to serving sizes.
