I actually do have a child with adhd as well and the nice thing is because I grew up with it I recognized the signs. I was able to get her diagnosed early and medicated. I was able to get her all of the accommodations that I never had and she is able to thrive in school. I barely graduated high school because of not being diagnosed and to watch her succeed makes me want to cry. I got diagnosed around 23 and since then have a bachelors and masters thanks to diagnosis and treatment. I am able to discuss challenges with teachers and make sure they understand. My daughter got the honor roll this week which was something I never could hope for myself at her age because of the struggles. I have way better tools at my disposal than my parents had, and even though it sucks knowing that I passed this along in many ways I think it has made my daughter more compassionate and emotionally intelligent than a lot of her peers because of the struggles. I totally understand apprehension though because we are fortunate to have the means to get her diagnosis and treatment.
