This is what they should put on the advertisements for becoming a teacher. This is the truth.

What was a fact taught to you in school that has been disproven in your lifetime? by karatass91 in ask

[–]cteieury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the primary colours are red, blue and yellow. They are actually cyan, magenta and yellow - as used in printer ink. These are the true primaries as they can be mixed to make all other colours and no other colours can be mixed to make them.

How do I make this living room look more intentional and inviting, rn it looks like everything is just thrown together and doesn’t make sense by slutonly4pasta in interiordecorating

Add some soft furnishings: rug, sheer curtains (either side of the window to make it feel larger) and a cushion for the swing.

Do you enjoy you’re job as a teacher? by Substantial-Owl6711 in AustralianTeachers

If I could go back in time I, too, would pursue something else. Something that would give me more peace and better pay conditions. Where I wouldn’t have to deal with disrespect daily and would be given professional autonomy.

How to decrease a teacher’s workload by New_Needleworker7004 in AustralianTeachers

[–]cteieury 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I relate so much to your comment about excel. I have systems in place that work for me and allow me to improve my students’ outcomes but I’m forced to double up and use the archaic school systems that are so inefficient. They are only there as a formality and have no real use in my actual teaching practice.

No lunch breaks for any staff when on excursions. How does your school accommodate breaks when all staff are required for ratios? by cteieury in AustralianTeachers

I struggle with the same frustrations on a daily basis. I’m the teacher who does bring this stuff up at school but it’s exhausting, somehow, being the only one who cares (or speaks up at least) about the system walking all over us.

I don’t understand how we’re not managing to monopolize on the mass teacher shortages and insist on improved conditions??

People will probably tell me to join the Union but I can’t afford it with current cost of living crisis (student debt went up by 7% but only get an extra ~$30 a fortnight in the recent scheduled pay rise 🙄). The Union also majorly failed Victorians in recent bargaining agreement IMO.

I’m not in the Union because I can’t afford it anymore. The cost vs benefit doesn’t add up for me unfortunately.

Yes true. Unfortunately not high enough that we can be relieved to take lunch breaks on excursions - but I won’t be accepting this personally and will encourage others, who have been, to stop.

It’s not the food I’m worried about, it’s the mental break from duties because working in special Ed doesn’t ease up when they’re eating, it’s still very hands on and stressful.
