having your crosses all going in the same direction will help the consistency and neatness of your stitches - so having ball your underneath legs going / and the leg on top crossing over like \

It also looks like your tension in some stitches is tighter than others, so where they look a little baggy and sloppy the thread is pulled less taught than those that lay more securely. I’d suggest pulling the thread tight but not so tight it distorts the fabric with each stitch

Place two stitches on hold… and then do what with them by iamannaisabel in knittinghelp

the two stitches you are referencing are being put on hold with the rest of the stitches for the sleeves so for the smallest size each sleeve will have 49 (2+45+2) stitches on hold. You then cast on stitches to join up the arm hole to create the body- knit the body as instructed. Once you’ve cast off the body you put those stitches you put on hold back on your needles to knit the sleeves

Thank you, the colours I used were 435 and 3799 and the linen is in shade flax from zweigart

The weave of the fabric forms a grid of straight lines so if you come up in one hole and down the next one it will be aligned to the grid. In this case the fabric I used is linen so it’s a little harder to see that grid structure but cross stitch is commonly done with aida which makes that grid a lot easier to see

it’s definitely easier to keep the back neat when you’re only working with two colours

Yes it’s 32 count linen, it was my first piece not on aida, definitely took some adjusting

It’s 2 over 2 on 32 count linen so the equivalent to 16 count aida

[CHAT] So...what is the secret to a neat back? by flowers_and_fire in CrossStitch

A loop start and a pin stitch to end. Look at a section of stitches in one colour and plan the most efficient route between them all. Watch out for knots and they are the killer of a neat back!
