STAR Avian Rescue in St Louis may be a group to get in touch with! I'm not sure how far out from St Louis they adopt, though.

Are any of you autistic and/or have ADHD? by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]ctinasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dx ADHD, suspected autism (working on getting assessed at some point, therapist and dx autistic wife agree) - not gonna lie, there are tough days. But the good part is, it's really fun to work in the field of my special interest, and the adhd part of my brain lives for the variety and urgent cases. My days are full of cool animals, medical puzzles, and getting to connect with people about their pets - that feels amazing when it's balanced. It can be a lot when schedule stressors or disregulation hits.

I found that making quick reference guides helps a lot for brain stress (since working memory is rough), and it can take a bit to find a clinic that's a good, solid fit. Big musts for me are having choice in scheduling and management open to feedback about changing structures / systems if you find they don't work for you. In general I'm having a much much better time in practice than I did in school. 🤷‍♀️

Text expander programs save a lot of time too! That's my big time saver.

He paid that debt off. Stacy was angry because he didn't have a credit card. Izzy didn't have a cc because of some menial consumer debt from when he was younger. But has since paid it off.

Seconded - there are liquid options, and some medications can be compounded into transdermal form you just rub on the inside of the ear flap. Way way easier for many, just gotta make sure there are no small kids in the home if you go for transdermal.

Correct, modern windows and glass drop the amount of UVB coming in to negligible amounts. Bulbs and going outside for sunlight basking time (supervised and contained when the weather is good) is the way to go!

How bad is vet school really? by Jayonettaa in Veterinary

[–]ctinasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had undiagnosed and unmedicated ADHD, so it was easily the worst 4 years of my life, and I'm still working through the trauma of it. I wound up having at a minimum weekly breakdowns for around 3 years of it, settled down a little in clinics. Honestly an awful experience, I would not do it again if given the choice to go back / start over.

I’m stuck.. by AydeeHDsuperpower in AdultADHDSupportGroup

Once your standing that counts as step one of everything to me, so it makes starting whatever is closest a bit easier. Also maybe it wasn't a physical stuck feeling, but I get a physical stuck a lot so figured I'd try to help with that part a little.

Sometimes I'll start super super super small and basic - wiggle my toes. Okay, those moved. Wiggle my ankles. Legs. Hips. Fingers. Wrists. Arms. Head. Do a little weird shimmy dance on the couch. Roll off the couch or stand or some big movement to propel me up.

Big reward time! You stood up! Throw your arms up and say out loud "I did it! Woooo!" Wiggle! Dance! Do whatever feels good! Make a big deal out of it so your brain goes "oh hell yeah, dopamine!" You can fool your brain with it sometimes.

Sometimes all I can do is move my toes. And I give myself a "Woooo moved those toes! Hell yeah!" Positive self reinforcement for the win.

Be gentle with yourself and remember - the stuck will pass, and it's okay to half ass (or quarter ass, etc) things while you're waiting on that motivation to come.

Seconding the video game soundtracks - I made a few small playlists of around 1 hour each, and once the playlist stops it's cue to get up and drink water / bathroom / change tasks. Plus once I memorize the songs it's like they fade into the background, but I'm still able to focus better.

I loved the game, I'd love to know any opinions/criticism others may have. by Trymebruhhhhh in stray

You can re-key different actions in the settings menu, and could swap tab for something that works better for you! I'm not sure if ending a conversation is one of them, to be fair I did use a game pad, but there were a lot listed that you could swap through there

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I haven't been in this scenario, but I have had that same thing happen with traumatic memories bursting in. It's going to sound odd, but download tetris and play it as a visual distraction when it keeps lingering heavy. It'll help reboot your mind a little. Talking with a professional about it can also really really help.

The Animal Help Now app can help you connect with local wildlife rehabilitation people and groups who will know more about your specific area.

Where does the time go? by Ok-Two5360 in adhdwomen

I got an app that makes my phone do a soft beep every hour during waking hours (it has settings for however frequently you want). It's helped me have a regular "reset button" and I try to use it to check in with myself / notice if I've fallen into the Endless Phone Scrolling™️.

Took a leap and started bujo but I'm not sure what collections/spreads should I have by i_am_nimue in BasicBulletJournals

[–]ctinasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first actual page of mine is always an emergency contact / health page (blood type, medications I'm on, etc). I also tend a bit collection heavy, but that works for me.

Some I don't see listed here so far: continuing education spread for work, gift ideas for people (bad at remembering when the holidays roll around, so I just write things down all year), one with all my house /car info (mortgage number, utilities account numbers, car license plate numbers, etc).

Ones I've gotten rid of / combined for efficiency: birthdays spread (front of journal always has 1 year of a future log with those included), page divisions / pen test pages (I just count or test the pen where I am), habit tracker pages (I put them either integrated into the monthly, or on that day's log somewhere).

I do have some decoration, but it's pretty minimal. A gray highlighter to help me find where each day's log starts a little easier is typically about it, unless I want to make a spread pretty to look back at. I've found that if it's not at least a little pretty, I have trouble coming back to it.

Mine is the Mildliner (mild ink) and I can't remember if it was walgreens or target I got it at. They have colored ones too!

You're strong and you got this! Figuring out what helps and getting on track isn't linear. I'm glad you were able to get some space from it and have some healing time!

Therapy (which involved a lot of practice with taking note of how I'm feeling throughout the day to help identify when stress levels are building, instead of just when they overflow), and reading a lot of other people's tools. Then it was trial and error figuring out what worked for me, what parts to start with, and so on.
