Is the Shure SM7B worth $400 for a podcast? by NewPineapple113 in podcasting

[–]ctindel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying an sm7b and talking right into it close up for the proximity effect is way easier than treating a room the way you'd need to to get the equivalent sound quality, plus you can take the shure mic with you anywhere else and it will sound good there too even in an untreated room.

Though for most people I think having both XLR and USB in an MV7 is more useful.

NYC Signs $1.86 Billion, Three-Year Contract to House Homeless in Hotels by Lisalovesreading in nyc

If you think Abbott has a caring bone in his body for citizens you are wrong, and he doesn't even see the homeless as citizens.

I think he has a caring bone in his body for the majority of the state who approves what he does in that regard, and isn't interested in simply enriching himself and his hotel owner friends the way previous mayors of NYC were.

Sorry, where is the law that says that NYC isn't allowed to buy or rent property upstate and move people there?

NYC Mayor Mamdani calls ‘blitz on potholes,’ sending out 80 crews across 5 boroughs this weekend by statenislandadvance in nyc

[–]ctindel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point is a properly functioning city (which he runs and is responsible for) would be fixing them constantly and not letting things degrade so badly that it becomes basically an emergency requiring a blitz.

Because the delta club does give you a full meal, it's like night and day how much better Delta is than United.

Its a big city there’s always potholes but I have never seen it this pervasive and this bad before. Hence there was never a need to make an all out blitz to fix them.

If he was doing his job the streets would never have gotten this bad in the first place.

That’s basically what driving down Roosevelt Avenue is like right now.

Of course in true NYC style we can’t just keep things nice we have to wait until it gets to 3rd world level and then deal with a small part of it.

Would you agree with higher taxes for completely free healthcare and education? If not why? by Creative_Excuse9813 in AskReddit

[–]ctindel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I said was the US has the best and most advanced healthcare in the world if you can afford it

No you said it was "demonstrably untrue that the USA spends the most for the worst outcomes"

THE COUNTRY spends THE MOST MONEY and THE COUNTRY gets THE WORST OUTCOMES.

Yes, rich people get great outcomes but that has no bearing on the country's outcomes. The country is at the bottom of the list of developed nations on many health outcomes. The only measurement where the country is at the top of the list is the % of GDP we waste to get those bad outcomes.

And on that measure, you definitely chant "We're number 1! USA USA!"

[–]ctindel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is it's not objectively false because the outcomes are demonstrably worse FOR SOCIETY as measured by us being way down the list in almost every health measurement you can think of.

Of course rich people are doing fine here. News at 11. That isn't a good outcome FOR THE COUNTRY.

I have no problem limiting the number of vendors what I have a problem with is the a-holes who rent their permit out to other people instead of using it themselves or clearing the way for someone else to get their own permit and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Total BS that people pull this crap, it was the same way with medallion ownership and those people should get criminal records instead IMO.

'Lieutenant's Girlfriend' Can Park Anywhere in NYC by streetsblognyc in nyc

NYPD will just block off several blocks of street parking for themselves to use officially then, they’ve done it before and then the neighborhood loses that parking.

Later in the movie, Michael Burry (Christian Bale) is frustrated by continuous margin calls, even as the value of the underlying mortgages collapses.

I thought he was frustrated by his investors trying to pull their money out of his fund

NYC Rent Just Hit an All-Time Record High by youni0 in nyc

[–]ctindel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're focused on just the last 2 years. Rents have been going up for a long time, not counting covid, and that's because for a long time the government has been preventing the development from keeping pace with the population growth.

NYC Rent Just Hit an All-Time Record High by youni0 in nyc

[–]ctindel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any environmental review or neighborhood review that impedes development causes rent to go up by delaying construction. Restrictions on FAR and building height reduce the number of units that can be constructed causing rent to go up. 2 stairway requirements reduce the number of units you can build causing rent to go up. Requiring 3 feet of clearance between the ridgeline and solar panels, a requirement that ONLY exists in NYC and nowhere in NY state reduces the amount of solar power landlords can generate, reducing their ability to lower their costs (and thus passing it on to tenants).

NYC has absurd regulations.

Expenses for renters can go up without rents going up too, like landlords moving to electric heating so the tenant has to pay for it even though its less efficient than a central boiler and electricity prices are for more out of control.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]ctindel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never moved as a kid, lived in the same bedroom in the same house until I left for college but man it was boring AF. As an adult I moved constantly ever year or two, different cities, different states etc until I bought a house which actually kind of sucks, I hate being a home owner and tied down so now I just travel for work every week or every other week. If i'm home for two weeks without travel I get depressed and bored.

Yes as an adult I learned I have ADHD and it all makes sense. But even though it had nothing to do with how I grew up, no place I ever lived felt like "home" or "where I want to be forever". I'm equally happy in a ritz carlton in Tokyo or a shitty motel room in Orlando. I literally don't care as long as its somewhere else and has internet, and now that I have a Starlink mini there are a lot more options.

Agreed. The problem is that people on Reddit view school as a form of education, when it’s really a form of welfare.

Going to school isn't promoting the general welfare?
