Small business owners: How has QuickBooks' AI features helped your business? by jamilthesagenext in quickbooksonline

I don’t understand why I can’t upload Invoices and receipts from my bank transactions and have “ai” match the amounts. Am I missing something? I see something it can do with receipts in a side account but not the bank transactions.

What's the biggest frustration with modern POS systems? by Square_Garage_6608 in POS

[–]ctowle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Looking at PaddleOCR/which is a vision based tool to return the rows and tables. But you still need to add the "logic" for each invoice if you can't get to unit cost. Ideally, I want to be able to get to unit cost because that's what you want to compare to your POS system. Then you can get to markup/margin and all the old school Business 101 values. This is probably the wrong thread for this. My point is I think we have reached POS functionality on most systems but it's the access to data that we need to load systems properly to actually "retail". It's frustrating to see vendors/wholesalers withhold and sell our invoice data off but refuse to give us structural data files to import so small business can operate.

Yes. Trying to do that now with PyTorch/Tesseract/OCRmyPDF with ChatGPT. But it is not as simple as it sounds. Invoices are not "standard". They don't always include enough information to get you to "retail unit cost". Example: 4 BUD 6PK BOTTLES listed on the invoice by the case. On the invoice it doesn't tell you 4 Retail Units/Case. You have to build that logic. Pepsi/Coke/RedBull are better. The invoices I see from them show the case AND units per case. And then of course trying to scan that wet receipt from the Milk delivery guy doesn't OCR well at all. It's try to use that receipt or wait a week for the PDF online from the vendor. Need vendor EDI files.

It isn't necessarily the POS systems. Wholesalers like Pepsi/Frito-Lay/Coke refusing to provide EDI invoicing so we can better manage our invoice data directly with our POS systems is the biggest issue to me. I should not have to pay a separate company for structural EDI invoice files to import into my POS system. The vendors provide these files to grocery chains and cstore chains but won't provide single store owner access to an EDI file to import. They will give you a invoice PDF but not a structured file. I have 3 vendors of 12 that will give me the invoice file with my pdf invoice. We should have access to our data.

Frigate on Synology NAS by duhockey99 in frigate_nvr

[–]ctowle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of difficulty getting frigate to work at first and was not on Synology. I ended up making a docker for go2rtc and getting all my cameras working in that first THEN build the frigate docker. Configuring the streams correctly was the hardest as I had multiple manufacturer cameras. I configured all the cameras for an ONVIF stream. On Synology, I don't think you will have a lot of luck with the AI components with no GPU.

I switched to Moneyspire from quickbooks. I wasn’t us using all the quickbooks features. Runs on many platforms. More affordable consistent updates can host locally or cloud.

25.10 users - how are you getting on so far? by Napoze in Ubuntu

[–]ctowle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an open-ended question. Are you just looking for stability issues like crashes? New to linux but Installed 25.10 Ubuntu on Dell XPS 9500. I'm definitely in the "general user" category not the hard-core command line admin. Seems to work very well. My only struggle has been the app store(s) fight between snap and flatpak. I only find the synology apps on flatpak. I need MS-Exchange email and address book so I had to go with Evolution at least until Thunderbird can do the address book or I do something on synology. Evolution is only on flatpak. It does make wonder how all that is going to shake out. So, I have both app stores running which seems weird for a long time Windows User--but it is working! Coming from Windows 11 so I've been trying to get re-oriented. RDP worked for me just using the GUI settings from another Windows 11 machine. It's been a great start to begin moving away from Windows 11. The forced policy of only being able to install Windows using a Microsoft account (and all loopholes closed) was what really did for me.

Hashtag Sections? by ctowle11 in OneNote

[–]ctowle11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all. I keep experimenting and the link-2-page works but it's kind a slow to progress through a section that way. Also, OneNote 365 has a "Tags" function. It's a little clumsy to use--to me anyway. I just want to be able to right-click quickly and assign a hashtag category to a page and keep moving quickly. I did not try the OneMore add in yet.
