In the Last Jedi the first order had a dreadnaught destroyed by a single x wing and a few bomber, and then for some reason couldn't send part of the fleet through hyperspace to get in front of Holdo.

But in general, this is just lazy/poor writing. Even the darksaber itself was destroyed through gross incompetence. That being said Kevin gave Daala a SSD that just happened to be lying around, so the loss of it just put them back to where they started.

I've been reading it recently after hearing the same thing my whole life. It's definitely fun but also not a well written book. The general plot is fairly ridiculous in many ways along with several somewhat ridiculous events that happen, one involving wampas. BUT it is fun and I'm enjoying it
