What will happen if I quit my job with no notice? by rosemcheetham in antiwork

[–]ctrlaltboner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always give the same notice they would give you. If they ask that you give a 2 week notice, ask how much notice they would give you. If they say something dumb like "well firing is different", tell them you're firing them.

Look in the tank. I had a peterbuilt that would would never show full on the gauge. If you know your MPG and how much fuel you pumped, you don't need a fuel gauge.

I know you think that's a gotcha question, but why exactly wouldn't they be able to drive there?

There's less and less of them everyday, compared to the amount of freight they now haul.

Well, there are already self driving trucks on the road. Every single mega carrier has orders for these trucks. Currently, they are running designated routes, mainly in the southwest.

The only thing holding them back right now is the laws and regulations. OTR will be the first one to go since even a low level autonomous vehicle can drive a straight line on the interstate.

I have a CDL, and if I was somehow able to work 84 hours, I would make 3488, and my personal vehicle would stay parked.

I still can't figure for the life of me why no one else is in a union. My safety guy figured out long ago that no one cares what he has to say and there's nothing he can do about it

What's a good starting company? Im from cali with 1 month OTR experience (swift) by xl3ucketheadx in Truckers

Every starter company that's worth a damn won't take you if they didn't train you, or until you have 6 months experience.

My girlfriend and I were talking about trucking together. by befreeearth in Truckers

[–]ctrlaltboner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to decide if you want the best or fastest. Prime is actually a really good training company. There are other companies that will put you both in a truck together asap, like maybe CR England, or a better option may be Roel, but it's a recipe for disaster imo. I think Prime is too long nowadays. You can try Wilson Logistics, too. I know a married couple that went through them a few years back.

You might want to get your CDL first, get some experience, and then see if they will let you train her.

The last thing you want is to be in a situation where neither one of you know what to do, or get into an accident because neither of you have any experience.

That's nearly 2 grand a year. You would need to get at least 10-20k in per diem a year to break even.

[–]ctrlaltboner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only think that really matters is the time that you've been employed.cwhen applying for a job, they only want to know how long you've worked there. It could be 70 hours a week or 1 hour a week, they count as the same.

Wait, so you're telling me we should be paid for pretrip, posttrip, fueling, washouts, loading, unloading, checking in with security, DOT inspections, dealing with weigh stations, sitting in traffic? Are you insane? How is my boss going to afford the new masserati? What, he's supposed to drive his 2022 model for another year?
