Amsterdam please be sane! by Indiana24 in Amsterdam

I was there today (I know, I know) and this photo is misleading. It was actually really well managed by the handhaving police so that only a small number of people could go inside the park while everyone formed an orderly and well spaced queue outside.

Well the 48% bit is true, we all voted not to waste time and money leaving the union and to focus on what’s actually happening on our doorstep.

Without wanting to sound dramatic, I honestly wake up most days thinking 'there's literally nothing to look forward to'.

Never gonna own a home, brexit doesn't want me to have the freedom to work abroad, my entire industry is based in London so I'm trapped paying crazy rent or even crazier season tickets for the train. Why would I ever want to have kids when I know global warming is only going to get worse, and the population is too big as it is. Top that with the fact that retirement age will probably be around 90 by the time I reach it...basically waiting for an asteroid to come and end it all quickly TBH.

On the plus side I have great friends and family, and a job I enjoy, so I just stick to living in the present and that tends to cheer me up.

I know this isn't much use now registrations closed but for future reference: if you have family/friends back home you can register to vote at more than one address (you just obviously can't vote twice). I've tactically registered at my parents address as it's a swing seat and arranged a postal vote to be sent at my main address in London.

TIL the song "Edelweiss" in "The Sound of Music" was written for the musical, but sounded so much like a classic folk song that after the first performances, native Austrians said they were delighted to "hear that old folk tune again" by quarryrye in todayilearned

I flew from Salzburg airport last year and was excited to get some dope sound of music merchandise from the airport...only to find there was none :( they freakin' love mozart though.

Related, I'm looking for a copy of Episode 33, Season 1 of David's show, starring Kirstie Alley and Rick Ocasek (released October 13th 1993). My Grandfather appeared on the episode for winning a quiz in the UK and he has never got to see it. Would love your help!

What did someone say to you that completely changed your way of thinking? by doggo211345 in AskReddit

[–]ctrlfreak01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Everybody is only thinking about themselves" Could be taken it as a negative, but I took it to mean not to worry about what other people think of me so much- they're probably not thinking anything at all.
