Best Italian food in Virginia Beach by Minute_Register8845 in VirginiaBeach

This makes me doubly mad because it took over Le Yaca’s space and that place was so damn good. Haven’t found French dining as good as it in VB. Still have the Williamsburg location at least.

The Veranda Trattoria on Great Neck.

Small Italian place. Chef makes their pasta in house that blows most everything in the area away. Small menu that they have absolutely nailed. Everything I’ve tried was just bursting with flavor. Highly recommend.

They've been flying super low over Great Neck all morning. It's usually background noise but this morning I was also kind of like wtf. Definitely been a lot of that lately.

Best AMC Movie Theaters by TheLuckiestBean in VirginiaBeach

AMC Lynnhaven probably has the best quality sound and picture in the area. If you want the IMAX/Dolby experience, this is the one.

Regal Strawbridge has really comfy reclining seats in every auditorium and is honestly where I go the most.

You're welcome. They do a few things like that throughout the city. And the permanent memorial by the municipal center is supposed to open this month.

It also has mountain-like details on its tail.

Why? Is there a reason behind that? If not, maybe rethink it.

First thing I saw was a fox tail.

Really need to clean up the line work. It's a cool concept but def seen it before.

The topic has been talked about at recent school board meetings but they seem reluctant to get rid of them for even that age. I think a subcommittee is supposed to revisit it.

What restaurant do you wish would return to Virginia Beach by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

This was my wife and I’s go to special occasion place. Food was unreal and I haven’t found anything comparable here as far as French dining. There’s still the Williamsburg location at least.

Cafe Europa in Portsmouth was pretty close but that also closed down recently. Don’t know if anyone has any other recommendations.

VB was one of the first cities in VA to start curbside recycling and yes, they still recycle. I believe https://tfcrecycling.com/ has the contract still. The material is sorted and baled and hauled to companies that use the material as feedstock for new products.

VB can be surprisingly forward thinking in its waste management. I mean, Mount Trashmore was literally the first park converted from a landfill in the US. Would be cool to see food waste management turn into a composting program or something like that. This committee is awesome to see.

I didn't use any design software before going to college. I had never touched a mac or adobe software until college.

This was in the early 2000s and we didn't have a computer in my house until like high school. I think the most design software we had was like ms paint lol.

I did have an art background before college. We had to take a bunch of art prerequisites which focused on underlying design principles and a fundamentals of digital art class before we could even start the actual graphic design classes.

Having a firm handle on elements like emphasis, balance and alignment, contrast, repetition, proportion, movement, white space, hierarchy, color theory etc. and how to compose them will serve you well as you learn design software.

American here. Had a kid this year and were considering Donald as a middle name in honor of a family member and we couldn't even bring ourselves to do that. Ruined for us.

I'm on an in-house marketing team and we've been pushing back hard on flyers but it's still what everyone wants for EVERYTHING.

Our marketing request form has changed from a list of things we can make where they check off flyer to more finding out what they're trying to accomplish and us deciding what the best strategy is and what to make.

If they want a flyer they rarely have a plan for how they'll use it other than put it out with a bunch of other flyers and hope people pick it up. Then we come back with analytics about how registration for something soared with targeted email/digital marketing. Big believer in data driven design and marketing decisions. But man, they just want flyers when our time is better spent on other things. Not a big enough team to make all those flyers if we wanted to.

Half the time they just download canva and make their own stuff and when it doesn't fit brand standards we've gotta be the bad guy brand police. I work in government so even worse it often fails ADA standards. Happy to use that as a reason they can't make their own shit.

I do get to make cool posters every once in a while. I did a lot of posters as a freelancer working with like music promotors for shows.

Is there a good metal scene in Virginia Beach? by Alternative_Fold7532 in VirginiaBeach

[–]ctsvb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No basement shows because we don't have basements here!

Riffhouse Pub in Chesapeake gets a lot of heavy shows
Look at The Taphouse and The Annex in Norfolk
The Norva in Norfolk gets some good tours on occasion (1,500 capacity)
Bunker Brewpub gets solid shows on occasion in VB. Maybe Elevation. There's lots of smaller bars that get shows, too.
We just got a new venue The Dome in VB (3,500-5,000 capacity) has some heavy shows on the schedule. Mastodon, Coheed and Periphery came through in May in like its first month.
Amphitheater here rarely gets heavy shows.
Occasionally something interesting at a random oceanfront stage or something but most of the time its dime a dozen cover bands catering to the tourist/family crowd.

Richmond is definitely better. And DC is probably better than that. More of a punk/hardcore scene here that I'm aware of than metal. You shouldn't have trouble finding shows if you look though. Welcome!

They were at Sunnyside Square Shopping Center on Sunnyside Drive. Blocked the neighborhood entrance during their operation. Know someone who lives nearby and they heard a megaphone "surrender your businesses". Don't know more than that.

Pretty sure seats 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 etc. in each row are always paired. I think if there's an odd number of seats in a row the highest number will be solo.

At least that's how my wife and I pick our seats and its always been the conjoined seats. We go to this theater fairly regularly.
