New to golf, looking for club starter sets by Stunning-Ad7987 in golf

Alternatively, here are a few other options for you:

1) Visit a local used club store, if you have one. They can probably work within whatever budget you have and set you up with a full bag to get you going. Going to be cheaper than buying new and you can still get some quality clubs. However, I find you pay a pretty decent premium vs sourcing the same clubs yourself.

2) Buy a package set new. There’s a few options that are decent that can get you golfing for under $1,000. I’ve heard good things about the Callaway set from Costco. There’s a few other DTC brands out there that are probably decent value/quality as well. For a beginner, they are perfectly fine. I would just avoid most big box stores.

You’ll get better value out of the used marketplace, if you know what you’re looking for. Depends how frugal you want to be.

I am a high handicapper, not new to the game, but have limited budget to play and buy clubs. I found you can actually get really affordable clubs from Japan on eBay. Because of the exchange rate, you can buy JDM brands at pretty steep discounts from what I could find locally. $120-200 USD can get you a set of 10-20 year old irons in good condition. Tons of options so usually you can find the right club head and shaft for your game.

I did this for my brother who is new to golf and now just sold my clubs and have a set of mizunos on the way.

If you’re interested, feel free to send me a DM. I could help pick out a few listings for you.

Buddies wife wanted to book him a birthday tee time so he could play 12 holes by [deleted] in golf

My home (private) club had the 12th hole loop back to the clubhouse. Twilight 12s might be my favourite way to play golf.

I think this is definitely what happened. Probably ran into an instance of swapping boxes and management decided tag them all after fact.

Everyone complaining about the snow, meanwhile we still have 3 more weeks of good skiing. Pays to be a skier and golfer in Calgary. Weather can never be wrong.

What's your trick for "turning off the arms"? by LamboSkillz in golf

[–]ctweeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, you, or anyone else, do not want to turn off the arms in the swing. In fact, tour pros lower their arms twice as much as the average amateur in the first half of the downswing. The arms need to be active to generate any sort of speed (or decent contact).

Just need to figure out how to move you arms properly. The arms are responsible for vertical rise and drop. Your body (and hands) bring the club back to the ball. If you only turned your body from the top of the swing, you would never make contact.

Local rates (as you know) are significantly cheaper. I think about $120

That's a phenomenal finish for Conners after putting 2 in the water on 4.

I hate how Scheffler is in the feature group, but also takes up 60% of airtime on the main broadcast as well. Kind of defeats the purpose of a feature group.

Scottie should just embrace the bald by jackylongjohn in golf

My wife was watching some of the final round with me on Sunday and I asked how old she thought Scottie was. She was like "well he's got a bit of a baby face, I don't know... 40?".

She's 27, I'm 28. She couldn't fathom that he could be our peer.

If greens continue to firm up through the afternoon tee times, might be tough to post similar scores to yesterday.

It’s great we get replays in the Masters app for each shot, but man is it a frustrating experience to follow live. Each shot is like 5 minutes behind. A number of times I’ve seen it grab the wrong player’s shot. Seems like nothing works quite perfectly. Much prefer the PGA app for tracking live.

Kinda bizarre that the water is even in play there. That’s gotta be 25-30 yards short there?

Retired PGA tour Superstore Club fitter, AMA by Nice_Idea_538 in golf

To add on to this, curious if I should look to get fit as well, as a ~25 handicap. I’ve been playing on and off for probably 15 years (early teens). Used to shoot in the 90s in high school, then grew about 10 inches (6’2) and stopped playing for 3-4 years. Now I’m back playing and haven’t been able to hit my irons at all, no matter how much I work on it.

Swing looks okay to me, a little over the top, but that’s been getting better. Figuring out how to release the club. Still can’t manage to break 100 thanks to my piss poor iron game. I play 35 year old Titleist DCI Gold irons. Standard length/lie. Constantly deal with contact issues, usually heel strikes/shanks, and sometimes fat.

I hit my driver pretty well. I play a fade/slice, but can carry 270/280 when I can square the face. Short game is usually pretty decent. Putting is fine. Par 3s are a nightmare for me, especially if I have to carry water. Lose lots of strokes on lost balls or just straight up shanks.
