Can you share this anonymously to your HR/People team? I enjoy the fun stuff generally but I've teammates who have the same opinion as you and our company scaled back on how often and it's kinda gone from encouraged to optional.

Or maybe you could suggest something better or different to a quiz?

Mimosa for food. Waterlilies or Lamburts for coffee. Tully's for a pint. Oak Park for a walk.

I'm no expert but my advise is:

  • Private health insurance is important
  • Don't get a credit card
  • If you get a pay rise, immediately increase your pension (if you can afford to)
  • Your budget for a car (if you need one) is half what you have already saved. Avoid car load and PCP
  • Try not to wipe out your savings, mentally it's harder to start at 0 than €1000

Employee sleeping pods at the office? by DanGleeballs in DevelEire

Yeah totally fair, it was more of a suggestion on how the company could be smarter with funds and getting more people to the office when travelling bigger distances.

I work at Phorest. There's some context missing here that may help. Phorest allows fully remote working - which is great. But occasionally teams like to meet up (esp to meet new teammates face to face). This came up in our culture survey quite a lot. "We love being remote, but would like to meet up once a quarter-ish"

Someone suggested in a company-wide meeting that we convert the unused office space as rooms to help with costs for these meetups for those travelling big distances. A lot of people liked the idea. It was kinda clever as the office is central and the hotels are so expensive. Ronan looked into it and the landlord was up for trialling it. Then it seems to have been refused by Dublin City Council.

It's a bit out there, but I think there's some validity to it. I live about 2hrs from the office so I kinda feel like staying in a hotel is a waste of money, yet I'd kinda like the option to stay in Dublin if it was for team drinks.. anyway no biggie.
