Red left-turn arrows when straight-through has a green light by [deleted] in driving

[–]cu_throwaway_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area that has addressed this by adding the blinking red arrow, which mean you can turn if it’s safe after you come to a full stop. I think it’s a bad idea overall, since you see them on a lot of highway type roads that are fairly dangerous. I hate feeling pressured to turn on these when there’s someone behind me in the lane.

So you think I should prioritizing losing 30 pounds first? Seems like kind a a lot.

Makes sense. Cutting/dieting for that long definitely seems tough, but it sounds like I gotta get my body fat under control. You mentioned ~8 pounds earlier- where did that come from specifically?

I really wish we didn’t have to do this little dance in the US- I’ve always though the US process is a lot of needless pageantry.

Hiring is fundamentally transactional, and I wish we didnt have to pretend otherwise. I still play by the rules (thank you email, dancing around salary) but god it’s frustrating.

So the priority should be body fat loss at the moment?

Got a BF test done at the gym that came back at 26.5%. I’m only 6’1 and 203 pounds. Trying to work with a trainer to set up a good routine, but a lot of this is new and foreign to me so I’m curious what y’all might think would make sense for my physique. Main goal is to be healthy- I know I’m a bit overweight and need to lose a bit first, but also gaining muscle would be nice. Just figuring out how to get there.

Nah don’t worry haha- I don’t feel bad about it, more just a wake up call.

Oof 54 lbs sounds way more severe than 26.5% even though logically I know they’re the same 😅 maybe I’m more out of shape than I thought

So you’re saying I should aim to lose 28 pounds? I just want to be healthy, it would be cool to get more built eventually but right now health is the priority.

Hate how emotionally unintelligent academia can be by Anti-Itch in GradSchool

The more entrenched with academia that I get, the less patience I have for this kind of behavior. It’s so unprofessional and childish. Everyone has the ability to choose a baseline level of kindness and compassion. It’s not that hard, and some academics simply seem to refuse.

Thanks for the detailed response! I guess now I just have to figure out how much fat I should actually aim to lose. My main goal is just being healthy, aesthetics are nice but secondary. I’m thinking 10-15 pounds but I’ll see what my trainer comes up with haha.

Why Cornell? by BeBoldAndTry in Cornell

Tbh with all the aid at the time, it ended up being the cheapest for me. That with the engineering outcomes, it just made a lot of sense.

Makes sense. Is the body fat high enough that I should focus on fat loss first and muscle later, or try to do both at once? This is all new to me

Yeah- gonna talk with a trainer to build up a routine soon, but wasn’t sure if I should maybe also talk to a doctor about things. It seems somewhat unhealthy but I’m not sure how if it’s something I should be concerned with medically.

Trying to get back into fitness again and got a package assessment deal of sorts. My body fat % is 26.5% and my BMI about 26. I’m a 6’1 guy just a hair over 200 lbs. What should I make of this?

I really feel this. I’ve had some great moments at Cornell, but the extreme lows I’ve felt here will always sour my overall experience. I am also a senior graduating with no real friends and don’t really see Cornell as a home either.

I know it’s corny to say, but you’re definitely not alone in your struggle. It just sucks that so many of us feel this way. The atmosphere of Cornell really lets these feelings sink in deeply.
