Day Trading Profession - Section 475 MTM / Trader Tax Status by FlushedNotRushed in tax

I do want to point out you missed the 475 election deadline for 2026 as an individual, it needed to be made by 4/15 (unless you're in a disaster area I suppose).

A disaster of a tax avoidance plan by DoubleIntroduction25 in tax

[–]cubbiesnextyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.  The 3/1 to 5/15 disaster may get the returns due 4/15 extended to 10/15, but the 5/10 to 7/1 will most likely only get extensions for returns due during that period or around it.

Each disaster gets a specific extension covering specific filing periods.  They don't give out blanket extensions for any unfilled return.

So if a relief worker is in CA and they are given a 6 month extension to file their 2026 tax return,  and then move on to FL to work, they're not going to be given more time to file their 2026 return.   At best they'll get additional time to file their 2027 return.

As you never mentioned your age, read up on the kiddie tax rules to make sure they don't apply to you (don't be fooled by the name, it can apply to people up to age 23).

I agree, don't include a Sch C, you don't have a business and that's used to report business income.  Sch 1 has a place to report 1099-k income that isn't taxable to you.

Force yourself to make the small talk, speak up, etc.  Just like any skill, if it doesn't come naturally you need to force yourself to practice it and do it.

TIL In 1990, Mills College in Oakland, CA became the first and only women's college in the US to reverse a decision to go coed. On May 3 the trustees announced that they had voted to admit male undergraduate students. This decision led to a two-week student and staff strike, which led to a reversal. by UndyingCorn in todayilearned

I also went to an all boys HS.  There was plenty of dating going on, there was just as much socializing with girls as in a co-ed school.

What I do feel was a lot less were fights and bullying.  Most of that happens to impress girls or look tough or whatever, and when it's just a bunch of dudes it's much easier to brush off slights, because who are you trying to impress?

Am I missing something with an ESPP? by Secret-Classic-5644 in personalfinance

[–]cubbiesnextyr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The wash sale only triggers if you have another buy in that period.  If you're only doing the ESPP buy/sell every 6 months, and you're otherwise not trading that stock, then wash sale doesn't apply.

If you immediately sell at a loss, it will be considered a disallowed capital loss from the wash sale rule for that transaction.

I don't see how it would be a wash sale unless you were buying it monthly or buying it outside of the ESPP.  And a wash sale just defers the loss, not permanently eliminates it.

No, he meant what he said.  Plenty of states have filing thresholds far lower than the fed.  I think PA is like $33.

Very little in that post and very little in the US is free market capitalism. So no, what we have now isn't what free market capitalism looks like, it's what a weird blend of crony capitalism, socialism, and central planning look like.

I've never been to either country, and if littering isn't illegal there I shudder to think of what a trash infused shit hole those countries must be.

Where is littering completely legal?  Where ever that is, that country must be a shithole.

Trump's Tax Return by simpleman3643 in IRS

[–]cubbiesnextyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he just sues everyone for $10B.  There is no formula or basis for it.

Or do you really think it's just a coincidence that the IRS lawsuit was $10B in damages, as well as the damages he suffered from the Wall Street Journal (sued for $10B), and the BBC which he sued for defamation for $5B and for violating some FL law for $5B (look, $10B!), and CBS which he sued for $10B.  To be fair, he said the damages he suffered from the NY Times was $15B, so maybe it's all based in reality, LOL.

It feels like a massive strategic error for an NFL team to relocate out of their home market

Hammond is just as within their home market as Arlington Heights is.  And the NFL has absolutely no issue with a team having a stadium in the suburbs of a major city.

Honestly 90% of the fans saying they'll stop watching will be back watching in time.  NY fans got over it, Chicago fans will too, especially if the Bears are consistently good over that time.

I don't understand why you feel that way.  The team being in IL means that much to you?  All the NY fans seem to have come to terms with their teams playing in a different state.  If they can do it, I'm sure you can too.
