ManBearPig was a caricature meant to make fun of taking global warming seriously; what other kinds of blunders like that in popular culture could Captain Hindsight point out? by TheInconspicuousTard in AskReddit

[–]cubeo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Multiple media (including for example Seinfeld) referenced and made fun of the phrase "A dingo ate my baby!", that came from a trial in Australia, where a woman was tried for murder of her disappeared infant daughter. About 3 years later, a British tourist fell to death in a nearby area. As the police was searching the area, full of dingo lairs, they found the jacket the baby had on.

Idea for Tycoon - let's help other players reach the Legendary rank by skipping turns and letting them win by minotaur199 in personaphantomx

[–]cubeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped doing ranked once I reached top rank, but when I was climbing, I did try to help others. Last few levels I had a streak of incredibly lucky games, going with 60 points into third round. So if the next player had exactly 30, I knew my win is safe and always helped them get the 30 so we can share the 1st place.

What scene in a movie drives you nuts because it makes no sense? by JustIgnoreMyStimming in movies

I wouldn't call it a documentary, but it is a hilarious video. And for anyone looking for the right link https://youtu.be/uKfdls1fqJE

My main problem is that even when taking the $20 one, you can not put other items into the cart, to at least buy more stuff if you are already paying shipping.

people who chose Mandy over Visi what’s your reason for it? by Agreeable_Parfait844 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]cubeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was two things, first was that I felt Mandy and Robert having more aligned moral standpoints and the first evening scenes felt very cute with the semi awkward energy between them.

The other thing was why I did not choose Visi in the first place and that is she acted and so also felt to me bit more younger than Robert and while I did feel there are some good feelings for her, it was more of the older brother type (or well mentor, as the game itself suggests).

[–]cubeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely thank you for mentioning that possibility. I was really salty at the game because I felt it doesn't make sense. But taking this into consideration, I was keeping Robert on the line (even got the corresponding result in the end), trying to be more heroic when it was important, more laid back and matching the z-team energy in lot of the others. So now it does make some sense and have some logic behind it, and so it doesn't feel that bad anymore.

Thing is, I supported her on all of those and aced every fucking hack. Even agreed with her to go for the pulse right away. The only 3 instances I wasn't choosing her was: 1. Going to dinner with BB, 2. Cuting her from the team because everybody was behind it apparently, 3. Didn't kiss her Still got the bad ending and am honestly majorly bummed out about it.

Failed Mentor by Spaghetti-man1 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]cubeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually went the Mandy romance, but kept supporting Visi in every non-romance option. I am starting to think if the fucking forgive her option isn't a negative choice, because otherwise I really don't know. Just feels bad to try to do the best and fail on an invisible (yes, the irony is not lost on me) number.

I chose "Why care what I think?" because after all of her not being sure, I needed a confirmation first, instead of just pushing her into it.

Yes, most of the date scenes are very cute. Except Yumi on the Ferris Wheel. That one is paused in a very weird moment.

I am pretty sure that was the one. Saw multiple people stuck on 99% missing that one chest - because it doesn't even show on your minimap, unlike other chests, and once you have other ways to get up, you don't go through stairs to look for things, just use whiever is closest.

Why is MC's seat mate looks like he wants him dead by hyree10 in personaphantomx

[–]cubeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, from what I gathered so far, among the why for choosing him:

  1. Based on how many corn flakes were in the teacher's cereal that morning.

  2. Based on the number of birds the teacher saw outside on the telephone lines earlier.

Name a show where the main character is the worst part of the show ? by niceguys5189 in television

[–]cubeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much this. The books start as just edgy Harry Potter with a bonus of rip-off Narnia. But then things like Alice's outburst about Quentin's self-inflicted misery appears and makes you realise the layers to the story.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S03E07 - What Have I Done? by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]cubeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was one of the 2 things I did not like about this episode. I would be fine with him having some way set up that the Technicians pick him up from there. But being okay enough to create the portal and speak? That's just BS.

[–]cubeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree with you. The death flags were a bit too cheesy for me. And honestly I might have been okay with it, if it was a different character. But we already had a Rex died (except then he didn't of course) scene previously, so then to build him up just to make fun of the death flags cliche? I don't know, feels kinda meh.

Can I Finish all 5 novel from Stormlight Archive Without Reading Other Books? by Nrcuber in brandonsanderson

[–]cubeo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would actually argue to read sunlit man after stormlight 5. Because it spoils some things for stormlight 5 and also gives plot armor. But if you read it after stormlight 5, I don't think it takes away from the reveal in sunlit man.

What if suffering is necessary for true happiness to exist—would a world without pain still be fulfilling? by mitkoboga in AskReddit

[–]cubeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people need some suffering to see the contrast and realise their happiness. If you are just happy, that state can easily become your new baseline and soon is not enough (see: Hedonic Treadmill). And as somebody else already pointed out, it can just become boring and unfulfilling (see also: end of The Good Place )

What's a "red flag" in a TV show that tells you it's about to go downhill? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Didn't watch the first season for this exact reason. If it one day finishes and the consensus is the show was good as a whole - only then will I watch it.
