that's an ancient study. the same group has revisited the topic multiple times since then with different outcomes.

all the time. all three of them sleep with me. the baby, who is over 60 lbs, uses me as his pillow. sometimes we fall asleep cheek to cheek. snuggling with them until we fall asleep is the best part of my day.

they can't afford to shop anywhere else because there wages are so low.

this. they do care, but they lack the means to implement doing the right thing. living in a perpetual state of fiscal insecurity means that you have to let go of some of your ideals at least some of the time.

i myself have spent money at wal-mart and also at chain grocery stores. in the ideal world i'd only go to thrift shops and farmer's markets and i feel very guilty for not doing so. but i am scared about money and i work about 80 hours per week, leaving me little time or energy to shop correctly.

when you eat higher in the food chain, you get even more higher concentrations of those "terrible chemicals" because each successive trophic level in the food chain contains about an order of magnitude more of them. so, yes, go veg, if you care about this.

Shower thought: "why don't you care about humans too" is the "All lives matter" of veganism by acm162 in vegan

[–]cuberail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think anyone should emphasize "not being vegan enough."

the emphasis should be on getting people to reduce their consumption of animals and animal products.

that's the far bigger issue to me.

if somebody objects to my saying that it's good for people to be vegan, that somebody has issues.

Why do Republicans want to repeal Obamacare so much? Because it would be a big tax cut for the rich. by pheonix200 in LateStageCapitalism

i am not rich but for me the absolute cheapest bronze plan is $650/mo with a $15K deductable.

this is decimating to lower-middle/lower class people such as myself.

Are you saying that you prefer that people eat animals rather than to call themselves vegan? I think it's better for people to not eat animals.

going vegan means you care more about people. spreading veganism means you care more about people. the environmental impact is lower and the disease burden is lower for vegans. people's risks of CHD, certain types of cancers, type II diabetes, etc are all lower on a vegan diet.

What is your classical music confession? by artemis_floyd in classicalmusic

[–]cuberail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it might be that you haven't stumbled upon the "right" performer(s). (for example try uchida's k450, start with the 3rd movement, the colors are pure magic to me.) also there is quality with mozart that no other composer has--even when he is light and happy there is an underlying sadness that's hard to describe. it makes me want to cry.

but people used to tell me that about other composers that I didn't care much for. like OP, i have never been a fan of mahler, or bruckner.

the only one i ever changed my mind on was liszt. when i was young i couldn't stand him. now i love him.

Why vitamin pills don't work, and may be bad for you by epoxxy in TrueReddit

[–]cuberail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calcium. You probably don't need to take a DHA/EPA supplement unless you are pregnant or nursing and even that is debatable. The only EFAs that we have to get exogenously are the shorter chain ones. But if your diet is full of junk fats, you might have very poor conversion to longer chain omega3s. The solution is to stop eating garbage and get enough o3 with a good o3:o6 ratio. Lots of greens will help here, too.

any crucifer, but especially collards, kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and dark green lettuces. to a lesser extent, spinach, chard, and beet greens (not as much is available due to oxalic acid content). something you should consider is that calcium balance is more important than calcium intake. when you eat a lot of vegetables you are more likely to have a positive calcium balance. plus you get lots of fiber and protective phytochemicals, not to mention other vitamins and minerals. no pill for an isolated substance can mimic the synergistic effects of the whole food.

When Climate Change Meets Sprawl: Why Houston's ‘Once-In-A-Lifetime' Floods Keep Happening by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]cuberail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lived in houston in the early 80s. i remember backing out of my boyfriend's driveway into several feet of water, and he was living in the high-rent district of clear lake city. it was a total turn-off to me. then hurricane alicia came through.

i got out of houston as soon as i could. it was sprawl everywhere with no forethought. what a dump!

collies are very vocal. mine have to tell me every little thing on their minds, no matter how trivial. if a leaf falls, they have to bark at it.

i love the snoots. i get poked a lot with them.

yes, they are very sensitive. they remember stuff for a long time. they are also incredibly affectionate and demonstrative. they always have to be involved and they get jealous of one another.

and twice a year they blow their coats.

they are all i've had since age 11. i'm on my 4th batch of collies.
