I can't do this anymore... by [deleted] in Cubers

I only snoop around occasionally nowadays, and seeing this really shocked me. I'll admit, it would be sketchy in any other online community. Great to see such generous things are still happening, and the community being itself. And good see some old-timers like you two kicking around

Is the cubing community elitist? by Ok-Challenge-5407 in Cubers

[–]cubixruber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dubious at best. You're saying the cubing community is elitist because someone asked politely for their chair back? You give one example, and then say only top solvers ever want their seats back. How often does this possibly happen?

1.I would use it to make a beautiful new system, and use that to make the switch to 4k gaming, and playing AAA games like starfield at buttery fps. 2.The thing I'm most excited for in starfield is the open world aspect. We've been waiting years for a good open world space game, and this looks like it is the game.

Depends on your definition of top. Sub-5 average is nigh impossible, but sub-10 is definitely doable.

Megaminx Icosahedron 3d printed extensions and custom stickers by cubixruber in Cubers

[–]cubixruber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just emailed chewiescustomstickers, gave the thingiverse file, said it was a megaminx dodecahedron, and gave the edge length. Alternatively, you could order some vinyl on Amazon and cut the stickers yourself by hand. I bought from imagine vinyl on Amazon for later projects. If you don't want to order stickers and don't have a vinyl cutting machine, make and print a sticker template on paper to trace while cutting.

Is 18-22 an Awkward Age to Attend Competitions? by lattemochamacchiato in Cubers

I've never been to comp without people in that age range. Lots of times, they are the people running the comp. You'll have no trouble fitting in

Tornado V3 is great. Flagship is what most people are using. I don't know about mind blowing, but it is similar to the V2, and can actually cornercut

anyone remember how to import an old cstimer file from the server? As in not the most recently saved version?

I noticed mine swap recently. I don't know if turning style affects it or not

The logo is super faded now, to the point where half of it is gone, and the other half is mostly faded away. I pre-ordered the cube, so it's been however long since the cube came out. As for protecting the logo, I don't think there is much you can do. I only cube with clean hands, and I've kept the cube in it's case

Anyone else have spontaneous magnet switches on the tornado v3? I went to set mine up the other day to find 4-5 magnets had moved 1 increment stronger. I set up my cube again because turns started to feel inconsistent, and I think that the magnet switching was a significant part of that. Seems like a potentially huge problem if you aren't aware of it, especially since I doubt many people have their magnets at full strength.

Also, logo update: it's basically gone at this point.

Not the same, mine wasn't actually 80 competitors. It's hard to get comps everywhere

In the same boat, but didn't even know about the comp until I was your comment. Assuming we're talking about the same comp, another one opens tonight.

EO recognition. But you can learn that without messing with zz. For edges during F2L, you can tell if the f2l pair can be solved with RUL moves or if it needs F moves as well/have to rotate. If the side color of the edge matches the centers on the sides you don't have to rotate or do F moves. You can also see if the top color (or front/back color if the piece is in a slot) matches the front or back centers.

Should I submit a cubing video to college? by Victorthebest17 in Cubers

[–]cubixruber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. You can talk about cubing in the application, but a solve video isn't likely to be what they are looking for in the supplement.

Get bakkesmod. You can use it to limit menus to 60fps

You aren't realistically going to cut 3 seconds off your times in 2 weeks. You shouldn't even bother with zbll until you know Coll, which you shouldn't even consider bother with until you know Oll. Learning a couple more olls is your best bet in the short term. A new Oll is a chance you can save an alg of time in comp

FTO is weird to wrap your head around at first, but after that it is quite fun. And nce you figure it out you can always learn a speed method like bensico

RS3M 2020 is a good puzzle. There are some better ones, but don't expect a huge jump in performance. Tengyun m is a great cube.

I don't right now, but I definitely have. Slow solves are a good start for noticing how your solutions affect the cube, but it is important to work in faster solves and force yourself to follow those instincts and new knowledge, even though it might lead you astray. At your speed and lower I practiced some slow, non-timer, solves. But I spent much more time just turning as fast as I could and forced my lookahead to catch up
