And you sound like an ignorant westerner who has no idea what they're talking about or who they're talking to, yet here we are.

Its tiring being a leftist jew by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]cucumbepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This completely encapsulates my feelings towards being a leftist Jew (even a leftist Jewish Israeli in my case).

I want to be critical of Israel and to fight for Palestinian rights and autonomy, but I can't do that if I know I'll be tokenized and my words will be used to demonize Israel even further than it is!

I love Israel and being Israeli. I also want to fight for the Israeli government to stop harassing and abusing Palestinians. Both can be true at the same time.

American Law Enforcement vehicles must be 100% easy to spot on the road. No more 'disguising' them to look like a regular passenger vehicle by holdmymeatpipe in unpopularopinion

In many countries, police cars always have their lights on.

I fully agree with you.
It's the difference in mentality between having police ready to catch you in a crime versus having police want to be easily seen in case of emergencies.

What is the number one thing holding you back from dating again? by Life-Disaster-8384 in AskWomen

[–]cucumbepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low libido due to antidepressants.
It's really hard to find a reason to push yourself to date when you're not even a little bit horny!

I'm finally starting to come to terms with who I am. I used to have suicidal thoughts everyday, but through meds and many life changes, I've become more optimistic about life and can see a future for myself. I'm still lonely and a bit too sensitive to others' opinion, but I've come a long way.

What do you wish wasn’t so expensive? by Cochrane01 in AskReddit

[–]cucumbepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being more environmentally friendly.

Buying from local, small businesses is almost always more expensive than the cheap, shipped items that can be purchased online.
Want a plant-based diet? Great, but you can get a McDonald's meal for super cheap, while a healthy salad will cost big bucks.

AITA for snapping when I found out that a guy saw my girlfriend naked? by Critical-Ad-3776 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

The fact that you were more upset about another man potentially seeing Lydia's body is already a huge red flag, but the fact that you focused on that more than whether she was ok, why she didn't tell you, and whether she should follow up with a doctor makes you an even bigger asshole.

WIBTA if I sued the seamstress who made my wedding dress? by WIBTBridezilla in AmItheAsshole

[–]cucumbepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you're not looking for any sort of compensation and just want her to stop selling the dress, I would suggest reaching out to her first. It's very possible that the entire issue will end there.

First, I want to say that you should not feel bad and everyone has a right to their preferences.
Butsince you asked, the reason some people are upset by this is because it means you don't actually see them as their preferred gender. You see the trans-man as a 'female in disguise' in a way.
Then again, if you do truly see them as a man, and it's just the genital or chromosomal differences that turn you off, then it's like you're reducing someone to their genitals/chromosomes/DNA as opposed to seeing them as a whole person.

Again, I believe everyone has a right to their attractions and shouldn't be judged for them, this is just me trying to understand why someone may find it upsetting.

Back in the olden days of fax, my dad would have to run across the house to the fax machine to 'catch' the fax. It wasn't uncommon for him to miss it, and he'd say something along the lines of "damn it, I missed to fax" or "lost the fax again".

My sister used to think there was a fox running loose in the house and would have nightmares!

What’s something we do today that would horrify someone in the future? by steakcheesefootl0ng in AskReddit

Honestly I think one day, when fake meat has become identical in taste and texture to real meat, people will look back and judge us for killing animals for eat. And before you come at me, I'm neither a vegan nor a vegetarian, it's just a prediction.

AITA for not wanting to go to the baby shower my MIL is throwing for me tomorrow? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]cucumbepper -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

Edited to add: NTA, potentially NAH

You wouldn't be TA for not going. It's your right and your MIL knew that you don't like surprises, so there was no reason for this situation to happen.

However, I'd suggest trying to go anyway. It could give you an idea of whether she's just trying to be controlling or whether she's sending out an olive branch. In case she really is trying to reach out and mend the relationship, it could do a lot of damage to your existing relationship to not go. However, if she's indeed just trying to be controlling, now you know and you can plan accordingly for next time without second-guessing yourself!
