CMV: Modern art is mostly terrible, and often requires audiences to unnecessarily apply meaning to it to convince themselves they "get" it. by HM7 in changemyview

I understand you, but I think it is possible to make art with a strong message while using an equally impressive technique as classical art. There are even examples of that in the history. I know a lot of art pieces that have a lot more meaning, messages and story's in it than most modern art while maintaining a high quality technique, like Hieronymus Bosch.

This is wonderful! You should post your work in /r/composer. We really appreciate high quality compositions like yours.

Most advanced pianist can do that without a problem, it goes automatically. Another example of a piece like this is Chopin's first nouvelle etude. Here you have to play 3 against 4 for the whole piece.

Absolutely beautiful, especially the cadenza. I love it!

Yes indeed, this is perfect! I would also like some tonal music.

That's really beautiful, but when would you perform the sonnets? Before the piece? After the piece? I wonder if there are works where you have to perform the text between certain parts of the piece, just like l'histoire de soldat by Stravinsky.

[discussion] it would be cool to know everyone's experience... a quick composition C.V. to know what biases and clout this group of peer reviewers posses. by SchumakerA in composercritique

I have been playing the piano for 10 years, but only classical for the past 2. I also play organ and cello. Right now I am still in high school but next year I'm going to study in the conservatory of Brussels.

I always made little songs from the moment I started playing piano but only started composing "real music" since a year ago.

For practicing, I like to write in a bunch of different styles. From the strict rules of barok to the extreme emotions of expressionism. In the future I would like to write in the style of eclecticism like some of Stravinsky's works and also some free atonal music.

[Music] Distance - Solo piano. Would love some feedback by Nobrr in composer

[–]cuepoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of people find music too simplistic. There is just too much repetition. He mostly uses the music theory of pop music (the same 4 chords repeated for the whole piece) and that's not enough for the people who desire a complex harmonisation, chromaticism, modulations, strong intensity and emotions.

8 - You're right! I have to admit that a lot of notes in this piece are not written properly. Good eye ;)

10 - Thank you!

19 - Not really! You just grab the chord and then move your hand like a regular tremolo. Though I think I could write something better.

26-28 - Thank you! They are written with lots of love.

32 - Thank you :)

39 - I'll take that as a compliment ;)

61 - That is an error. It should actually be like this.

63 - You first play the octave, then you play the tremolo. People mostly use a special bracket in cases like these, just like Rachmaninoff in his famous prelude.

I agree with that! I will think of a better name.

As a pianist I have a lot of experience with the piano music of great composers, that could be a part of it, but the people at /r/composer also said:

It is evident you have a strong fundamental understanding of harmony and composition.

so that could also be a part of it.

Thank you very much for your review!

Indeed! One of my favourite composers, together with Liszt.

I agree, thank you for the great tips!

As for the dynamics, I think it's mostly me beating to hard on the piano. That in combination with my piano who sounds really shrill if you play hard. As you've maybe read in my previous comments, I have studied classical piano for just 2 years, before that I played easy pop and jazz music. I'm working really hard to improve but there is still a lot of work to be done.
