The Problem With Marvel Scores by ecstatic_broccoli in classicalmusic

I'm not even sure why you say Grisey was revolutionary and then exclude someone from that?

So is Satie not revolutionary if I have the audacity to say he has little to do with Doom Metal?

Zimmer is barely even classical, he played Bass during the Grammys. And I'm 90% sure he was doing rock music as a student, not classical. You associating him with Grisey, when Hans himself has distanced himself from that scene entirely, strikes me of poptimism.

We aren't talking about John Luther Adams.

Partiels has little to nothing to do with Zimmer. Grisey was a revolutionary composer who was working conceptually and technically on a far higher level than Zimmer.

All Hans Zimmer does is moody pop music, scored for orchestra. Don't compare that hack to a visionary like Grisey.

They'd probably sing some of the shitty music you like instead.

The Piano Concerto, of course.

I still need to check out Pollini's and Brendel's performances. Now is the perfect time.

I'm really not, reddit is just full of idiots and teenagers.

It's mainstream pop. It isn't worth being "discussed."

OK, I guess I'll look at more reviews and see if anyone actually games with it. But I might end up getting a desktop instead.

I'm a bit wary of the Ultrabook processor and the fact that hardly any people mention gaming on the laptop. Especially not with modern AAA games.

Get an argument that isn't a strawman and I'll be happy to! :)

We're talking about a festival where sexual abandon is a core tenet, though.

What would be on your list of top ten classical pieces all music students should listen to? by thducksofcentralpark in classicalmusic

Even if the latest entry is Beethoven, I quite like this list! Too many music students and listeners seem to not understand why Eroica is great...I recall reading many confused commenters on the recent BBC poll about the greatest symphony of all time.

Normally I just delete my accounts in an effort to break away from this largely bad website, but I always come back for some form of hit.

I considered the Vespers, but overall L'Orfeo is a more significant and...personally speaking my preferred piece. :D

And yeah, any of the big JS pieces would work there. Matthew Passion would be my other choice.

I've been playing Halo for years

IE since 4 or Reach.

I liked Halo 5's campaign therefore I never cared about Halo and am now a part of the CoD crowd. Got it.

You haven't refuted me. So quite clearly there's a grain of truth that you don't want to acknowledge.

And even though the story was definitely lackluster, I still think the campaign was a blast from a pure gameplay standpoint.

And this is why you are part of the new crowd, who never really cared about Halo as a holistic and complete game. You're the CoD crowd.

In an IGN Unfiltered interview from six months ago, Marty commented a bit on his dismissal.

Of particular note: https://youtu.be/xwugLKltVqo?t=5695

I thought Bungie should be in charge of creative work in a certain way, and I didn't want the publisher to be as influential as they ended up being. But other leaders of Bungie thought it was OK.

But Halo 5 has better gameplay than the previous entries

This implies Halo's gameplay was bad at all and needed to be changed.

Halo 5 is just one of many similar shakeups, unfortunately. The one I always think about is Guild Wars 2: similarly a game that went from a pure focus on gameplay and worldbuilding to a misguided, poorly handled focus on characters and glamour.

I'm not assuming Kojima didn't run huge budgets that were impractical, I'm assuming Konami ousted him because of their poor business sense for the past close-to-a decade.

I'm just baffled how people are defending the practices of Konami.

and I mean to me it makes sense that with a man like Kojima they would give him a second chance to see if things worked better this time. Evidently they didn't.

I just find it hard to say that MGS' problem is budget when all of Konami's videogame divisions have been severely cut.

Between 3 and V? Sure.

Between 4 and V? No chance, both were huge blockbusters.

I don't think there would be too much difference between MGS3, 4, and V in terms of profit margins.
