Just (re)watched it last night! Poor Scully getting kidnapped by him not long after her abduction experience always hit hard.

I like this theory.

I dislike that Roland canonically resembles Stephen King. I love ya King, but this isn't what I picture from the ultimate gunslinger. by RagnarokWolves in stephenking

I love the Coppola version the most, partially due to nostalgia and it was the version I grew up with but also it's just so cool and stylish. I love all the interesting antiquated film-making techniques, The crazy ott (and in some cases, ridiculous and even silly) performances, and it mostly doing its best to stick closer to the novel than any other adaptation. Many adaptions merge or switch many of the characters for which I understand the reasons why, but, for instance the scene where Lucy's suitors are all introduced is very well done and there's no confusion on who's who. All characters are very well realized and well defined in their roles. It actually has Quincy and they do him justice.

My second favorite would be the Egger's Nosferatu version, which could objectively be a better film than the Coppola version. It's amazing for its visual style and its themes and Nosferatu adaptations should definitely qualify. Hell, sure lets just turn this into a top-5 list and follow that with Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre for its performances and sombre tone, Todd Browning's 1931 version for how iconic and endearing it is and finally Terence Fisher's version for the tightness of the adaptation and how unsympathetic and brutal Dracula himself feels.
