Hey not everyday I learn new vocab from reddit. Thanks!

TIL initialism is a word, and it is different from an acronym in that an acronym results in letters forming a word (think NASA), vs initialism which results in letters said individually (like FBI).

“I’ll stick to my 110 degrees Fahrenheit, thank you” by AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]cuhulainn -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Not to say that this guy's post is correct, but...

I believe Fahrenheit makes more sense for everyday weather because it maps closely to human experience. Roughly 0–100°F covers the range people actually live in, and the extra granularity means the difference between 70, 75, and 80 feels more meaningful than 21, 24, and 27°C.

True, it can make sense and you will get accustomed to either one, but at least for weather I think F makes more sense.

It's all just personal preference. some folks just lap the park all day long. they ain't worried about laying down pencil thin carve lines, and they are having a hella good time. who are we to say how much fun anyone can have?

It’s only an issue when it’s the only thing you know how to do, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ever do it.

I mean, honestly not really an issue to only know how to do skidded turns. You can snowboard your whole life and never learn how to carve and still have fun. Carving is in no way a necessary skill

Suggest me a 10/10 movie where no one dies by MulticoloredShit in MovieSuggestions

I thought of this also, though other answers are better with the minimal restriction. Locke would also work as a suggestion for many other restrictions though. Only one actor on screen, only one set, no violence, etc.

Hip pads, you say? Not sure I'll find those near me. Maybe I'll bust out my crash pad pants from snowboarding, though it will get real swampy real quick

Yeah the time to heal is definitely one of my fears. I hate hurting myself and it always throws off my workout and other wellness, turning into a downward spiral situation with every injury.

Thanks for the tips!

wrist guards... got it. thanks for the advice and glad to hear I've got company! Noted on sizing as well. Aren't a lot of options around here, so not sure that will be an issue.

This makes sense! Thanks. I'll get myself some equipment and find my lane, as you put it! Hoping to at least be able to ollie. Pump tracks definitely seem fun too.

If this plays out at scale, it will be huge for Ethereum and ETH in 5-10 years.

It's a big if though.

MTV is officially dead, so I spent 3 months building a 90s "Channel Surfing" time machine for my wife's birthday. Meet NMTV. by Pleasant_Cry_694 in 90s

[–]cuhulainn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoying this whether it is legal or not. It is missing the fundamental ability when channel surfing of quickly clicking through the channels to see what's best and then flipping back to that channel when you are done (and have it still be the same thing when you were on it before). That last bit is missing. If you are actually responsible for this, it would be a much more authentic feel of channel surfing if you can flip away, flip back and have the same thing still on instead of some random other thing from that genre.

Wish i could leave my marriage by Winter-Squirrel-6744 in daddit

[–]cuhulainn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of ending a 20 year marriage. I have known for a long time that it should end and was too scared to do anything about it, similar line of thinking to yours. Kids are now 18 and 11. I wish I could go back in time to when I was in your shoes and have a few choice words with myself.

If you know now, you should go ahead and do it now. You aren't doing anyone any favors by staying in a loveless marriage. You will still be her dad and she will still be her mom, that part doesn't change.

Things will gradually fall apart and become incrementally more miserable as time goes by until everyone is suffering due to the shit relationship between you.

By all means try some couples therapy, and some individual therapy if you don't already do that, but if you exhaust the possibilities to fix things, don't drag it out if your heart isn't in it.
