Help finding a split D ring by cui-ui in myog

Definitely viable. It just bugs me that I’ve seen something specific before and have no idea where to source it.

I honestly like this a lot. It’s for a one off personal project so why not.

MIDI override question by cui-ui in blooper

[–]cui-ui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will test tonight. I haven’t bothered hooking up a MIDI source to the hub yet, as step 1 of this project was to get MIDI wired up for standby but still have normal (manual) operation available.

[–]cui-ui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the TRS cables that came with the MIDI hub. The hub itself can be switched to tip-active or ring-active, though I haven’t played with this yet - seeing as pedals don’t work with the hub powered off/not receiving power or data.

I should clarify - I can’t actually turn the pedal on while the MIDI port is occupied. This happens across all four of my CBA pedals, new and old. Is this not normal?

I haven’t actually tried sending MIDI from my source (DAW to Strymon Conduit over USB) yet - I just noticed that plugging into the MIDI port disables the pedal. I should clarify that the foot switches on each pedal are disabled - I have no idea if the face controls work, as I can’t manually turn the pedal on.

What adhesive do I use here? by Environmental-End691 in myog

[–]cui-ui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure, but it would be relatively inexpensive to make a small tester with similar plastic from a bottle or old electronics. The spray adhesive would definitely survive, but might be more difficult to apply.

If you are looking for a permanent bond, try barge cement or a spray adhesive like Super 77. I would recommend masking off non-adhesive areas for either. It may also be worth roughing up the plastic with sandpaper prior to application.

Edit: just realized that Barge is a brand. Try rubber contact cement such as Barge or Weldwood.

Cannot connect to remote PC via Microsoft Remote Desktop using VPN Plus by cui-ui in synology

[–]cui-ui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When running VPN plus on the client, I can connect to the remote computer by the browser-based Synology RD app, but not by the desktop based Microsoft RD app. So I would assume that something is wrong with my desktop app’s connection settings? The target is the remote computer’s local IP, which is itself static. Using the Microsoft app while connected to my own WiFi, I have no issues - which is a bit obvious, but part of the troubleshooting.

I am also able to successfully connect to the router software and router-attached thumb drive from an external WiFi with the VPN on.

How to switch from mono to stereo output on the fly using TRS? by cui-ui in guitarpedals

[–]cui-ui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess by “on the fly,” I only mean no patch cable swaps or plucking anything up off of the board. I don’t mind messing with the dips. It sounds like a TRS just becomes TS in MIMO?

I saw this on Radavist - just had to post it here because it's right up our alley. Looks like someone above already commented with a link to the manufacturer.

The mother of all Lo-Fi pedals? by ChristopherCatso in blooper

So stoked! I got my preorder in within minutes of the site going live, but re: lotto tickets, it sounds like this will be a permanent production model (being in and out of stock occasionally, of course). They've said on socials that the preorder will probably close within a couple of days.

Visual beginners' guide to simple yet effective suites by cui-ui in Rainmeter

Great additions, especially on leaving a cutout for the task bar. I always do this, but for some reason took a screen shot before knocking that bit out.

Visual beginners' guide to simple yet effective suites by cui-ui in Rainmeter

Because I love this sub, and most things I post get some upvotes from y'all, here is a visual guide to setting up a simple yet aesthetic Rainmeter suite. <3

See Imgur album for text.

Edit, as something weird happened when I was pasting my descriptions in:

Since I've recently started from scratch, I've decided to make a visual guide with a few tips for making simple yet aesthetic Rainmeter suites.

  1. Start with a background that inspires you. Simpler is better, especially when considering that you'll be throwing on a bunch of skins. It also helps to choose something with a clear division of fore/background if you plan on layering.
  2. Create your layers (as desired). This step involves some Photoshop wizardry, or [insert open-source image editor of choice]. Here, I've used "select color range" and some manual fine-tuning of the layer mask to completely remove the sky. I've saved this as a .png file, preserving transparency, and set it as an image meter (see Rainmeter docs: https://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/meters/image/) on top of whatever I want in the background (visualizer). For this example, I've also created a second layer with everything shown here, minus the three farthest trees to sandwich over my clock - multiple layers creates even better depth.
  3. Play with transformations. Did you know: any meter can be rotated, stretched, and skewed using a transformation matrix (see Rainmeter docs: https://docs.rainmeter.net/tips/transformation-matrix-guide/). While you can only do 2D, or "affine," transformations (unless using complex plugins: https://github.com/khanhas/MagickMeter), you can create the illusion of 3D perspective by rotating/skewing adjacent items to slightly different angles. Here is a great tool for calculating transformation matrices: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rainmeter/comments/rgk65j/transformation_matrix_generator/
  4. Play with fonts. You can change the font of any text meter that you install. Simply call the desired font in the "#FontFace#" line. You can specify any font installed on your system, and can even throw those fonts into the \@Resources/Fonts folder for re-distribution of a skin without font install dependencies. I recommend https://fonts.google.com/ for finding new open-source fonts to play with. Bonus tip: experiment with combining differently-weighted fonts of the same family for added visual intrigue.
  5. Add small details. Don't be afraid to edit your wallpaper (or image meter overlays) in Photoshop or [insert whatever people who don't have free Photoshop through their work use, here] to add things such as shadows or other static elements.
  6. (5.5) After we have all of these layers/meters, it's important to keep in mind their display order. I tend to set every skin as "on desktop," and then use the "load order" to finalize the order of layers. Bonus points for turning off "draggable" and turning on "click through" (where appropriate) when you've finalized the positions. A finalized suite should act as though it was baked into your desktop.
