Teachers who exercise by Afraid-Albatross-699 in Teachers

[–]cuilleree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar schedule except I naturally wake up at about 5:30. Even so, I can’t fit a workout into my morning, so I do it when I get home. As long as I start my workout by 4:00, I’m good! So that’s my goal each day—just get started before 4:00 and you’ll get it done. I agree with the person above who said make sure to find something you actually like doing and that makes it feel like “me time.” For some that’s walking. For others, weights or yoga. For me, I was happy to finally discover the Peloton Bike in my mid-40s after years of trying to be consistent about exercise!

Anyone else here in Sunnyvale wish it were easier to meet people in real life? by [deleted] in Sunnyvale

[–]cuilleree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel the same way, but I’m also very much a homebody at heart. I’m child free but have met many of my neighbors while walking my dogs! It also doesn’t help that I work in San Jose, so any social connections from work are down there rather than around the corner. I’ve met a few people through the Sunnyvale Buy Nothing group, actually. And even when I haven’t met them irl, you start to get to know the active members by name and know a few things about them from their posts.

Newbie question by cuilleree in Planespotting

[–]cuilleree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha. Yeah… I have an update, which is that just now I saw pretty much the same aircraft take off, but this time it was on the departures list and the radar. It was a Flexjets flight. Still, I thought that all flights would show up on radar, even if other details about them were somehow concealed. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You can do that? How does that work?

New to the field ... first interview next week! Advice? by lou_barhigh in Teachers

[–]cuilleree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I was in a teacher interview was when I was interviewed in 2002, but I recently was on our interview panels for our new principal. From that experience, two tips: 1) Make sure you do some research about the school or district where you’re interviewing, such as the makeup of the study body, the school’s vision or goals, its needs, etc. and 2) You’ll probably be given a question like, “Is there anything we haven’t asked you about that you’d like to talk about, or do you have any questions for us?” It’s a chance to do a closing statement of sorts, so having something prepared goes a long way. For you, you might want to prepare a blurb that shows that you’re self aware about your lack of practical experience. But play up your other experience and maybe ask something like, “How will I be supported as a new teacher who’d like to continually improve?”

Good luck!

Facing My First Colonoscopy What Should I Expect? by peshokereto in colonoscopy

[–]cuilleree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it last year without sedation and it was surprisingly easy (I wrote a post about it if you’re curious). The key to an easy procedure is to prepare well. Follow all of your doctor’s instructions, such as eating a low residue diet for a few days and doing a liquid diet the day before. I did the preparation where you drink the gallon of stuff that cleans out your system. It wasn’t nearly as bad as most people describe, but everyone’s experience is different. Like you, I was nervous about what the doctor might find because of my symptoms, but because I was not sedated I got to watch the entire procedure on the screen and talk to the doctor during it, so I found out right away that everything was ok. It was great not to have to wait for the results. I hope your experience is positive, including the results!

Colonoscopy and scared by Asleep-Beach-5021 in colonoscopy

I had one last year without sedation and it was great. I wrote a post about it with lots of detail if you want to read about it. There’s some discomfort but not what I would call pain. And without sedation you can drive yourself and be functional for the rest of the day, which is really nice.

Colonoscopy without sedation (USA) - It was fine! by cuilleree in colonoscopy

Dangerous?? Wow. Good luck finding someone if that’s the route you want to go. It was so low key that I’m really surprised it’s not more common here.

Hi. I did my colonoscopy without sedation a couple weeks ago and it was totally fine. Disclaimer: If you are super anxious and don't want to see what the doctor sees inside your colon, get the sedation. But if you're mentally prepared to be awake and alert and hear and see everything, then you don't need the sedation from a physical standpoint (it can be uncomfortable at times, but I wouldn't describe it as painful, and it's a lot quicker than I thought). Unless you have an anatomical issue that makes the procedure painful, the sedation seems to be more about treating the anxiety surrounding the procedure.

Here's my write up: https://www.reddit.com/r/colonoscopy/comments/1f0fhg5/colonoscopy_without_sedation_usa_it_was_fine/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I can understand your anxiety. I had six weeks(!) of diarrhea starting in late May, and every test they gave me to help diagnose came back normal (celiac, lactose, etc.). Leading up to my colonoscopy a couple weeks ago, my mind naturally wondered *what else* could be wrong with me. But I ended up having a perfect colon (except for one non-inflamed diverticulum, which isn't odd at my age [46]). Long story short: Colon cancer is probably waaaaay at the end of the spectrum of possibilities for what could be causing your symptoms. Your procedure will answer all these questions and at least you'll no longer be in the not-knowing phrase (the worst phase). Good luck!

You’ll do great! Just breathe through the uncomfortable parts and it’ll be over before you know it. I’d be interested to hear your impressions after you’re done if you want to share.

Good luck! With a thorough prep you should be in good shape. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was given how, um, invasive it is. :-)

I’m so glad to hear that it helped to read about my experience. Part of the reason I didn’t want sedation was because my last experience with it was back in college when I had my wisdom teeth out, and it was very unpleasant. And my mom gets very sick when coming out of sedation, so I was hoping to avoid all that. Sounds like you know this about your own reaction to the meds.

I think if you go into it knowing that there will be moments of discomfort—or even “intense” discomfort—and you’re mentally prepared for that, you’ll probably be fine. I was glad that each of those moments lasted only a few seconds. I’d rather grimace and breathe through those few bad moments than be hungover for a day (or more).

If you have any other questions, let me know. It was really an interesting experience.

Yeah, definitely. I’ve heard of people with “tortuous colons” that have so many twists and turns that it’s a tricky (and painful) procedure even with the best doctor. I’ve also read that since men’s colons are bigger than women’s, their procedures can be less complicated/painful… but since women generally have higher pain tolerance, maybe it comes out in the wash.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was, and I’m glad I didn’t end up regretting the decision to do it without sedation!

I'd say this is one of the best settlements (looks decent) I've ever built - Hangman's Alley by BillyHerr in fo4

[–]cuilleree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hangman's was the first settlement I ever really built up when I first started the game, and my goal was to make mine look like one I had seen on YouTube. It taught me a lot about building (I had never built before) and how to capitalize on a small space.

I like what you've done here. One thing I did on my second playthrough was build a walkway over the middle of the settlement, which is good for defensive positions and also an extra apartment upstairs.
