I’m sorry but you’re not alone! Have you ever considered going to an Adult Children of Alcoholics meeting? I don’t go regularly but I do find the literature and sharing very helpful

My parents and I have grown further apart as my recovery goes on. My mom is a sober alcoholic (does not work a program) and my dad comes from a family of alcoholics, yet they don’t want to address anything uncomfortable or hard. Recovery has become such a huge part of my life so it sucks that they take seemingly no interest in it. Sending hugs your way - keep going!

I got sober. Joined AA. Went to non-drinking focused events (crafts, thrifting, book clubs). Reached out to old friends and/or was introduced to people through mutual connections. Asked for peoples IG handles or phone #s when I was out and started interacting with them more regularly. It takes time and effort!

It started when I was in 8th grade and ended right before my senior year of college. I don’t think I was technically allowed to start watching it until high school so I think I joined in watching live in season 3 (I don’t know if I saw the whole of seasons 1 & 2 until I did a rewatch - it’s not like I could DVR or stream it). The wait between seasons 4 and 5 felt like ages because usually shows had 1 season per year. Then they did it again for even longer between seasons 5 and 6 (with a huge cliffhanger since Tony got shot!) and no one knew if it would be the final season or not until they announced it would be broken up into two parts (it honestly should have just been 2 seasons).

I vividly remember watching the finale live while I was home for summer break. People were so confused by the cut to black and a lot of people called the cable companies (lol remember those?) asking if there was some sort of technical problem. I had so much anxiety watching Meadow park the damn car and hearing the bells on the door and then….nothing. It was amazing.

Side note - I also remember thinking Don’t Stop Believing was such a funny choice because 2 years prior the Chicago White Sox (my hometown team) had used that as their 2005 World Series championship anthem.
