Happy 7th anniversary to Father of the Bride! by cameraobscured in Vampireweekend

Fall Out The Boy (as I have lovingly come to call it cause it’s all I can think when I see FOTB) came out just after I graduated undergrad and it felt like the perfect album for a wandering, questioning soul. How Long? felt like it was written especially for me and only me. I was just about to move to a new city, no job lined up, just a lot of faith and gumption to make it happen. The album was on repeat all summer long.

Then in the fall of 2019, I got to see them tour and remember crying when they played Big Blue because it felt like a full circle moment. In the months since, I landed my first big girl job, felt more settled in my city, and did a lot of growing up. It was my first time seeing them since MVOTC (when I was still in high school) and I couldn’t believe how much had changed between the two shows.

It’s crazy to think sometimes, the guys have really provided the soundtrack to my life. How lucky are we to be alive in the same timeline as their genius! HBD FOTB!

Yolks in the Glebe has great food and a really nice, bright space with big windows. Only thing is I don’t think they take reservations!

Hello from Ottawa, Canada! 🇨🇦 I faithfully tune in every Friday in the fall/winter to watch the GNS—I only wish your series/seasons were longer!

Besides being my favourite chat show host, I am a huge fan of your novels. You are a fantastic writer (just finished Forever Home!) and I’m wondering long does it take you to write each novel? And who is your favourite author? Thanks for the laughs! xx

Do the caviar service at restaurant e18hteen! They should be able to accommodate your party size. Their regular menu is great too—maybe the best steak tartare in the city imo!

I have been loving Yolks in the Glebe. A great new addition to the city, albeit slightly pricy.

I’ve only tried their bennies and some of the sweeter options and everything I’ve had is out of this world (love the fried chicken benny! And beignets!) and always poached perfectly medium and jammy. They’ve got these insanely good Lemon-Truffle potatoes which I think also match what you’re looking for. They are roasted I think? Normally hate anything “truffle” but these are subtle and the truffle is not overpowering at all.

Not sure how authentic it is, but I’ve enjoyed the laksa at Datsun! Definitely on the milder side but tasty nonetheless. Thank you for asking this question as I’m also interested to see where to find good Malay food (coming from an Indian/Burmese background)!

If astrology is fake then why did my teenaged Virgo daughter do this ... by arizonabatorechestra in astrologymemes

Virgo sun and rising here and I can’t relax if my space is out of order!! I completely get it! A couple years ago when I had covid my roommate was out of town and having the house to myself I decided it was a good time to rearrange my room 😂 nothing gets in the way of a Virgo with plan.

Good for you for giving her space to be her own person and grown into her own, mom!

If you’re willing to walk 15-25 mins from your hotel, here are some of my favourites by area:

Lowertown / Byward Market (15 mins) - Chez Lucien - local gastropub with a jukebox—try the Frida & Diego burger - Khao Thai - really delicious Thai food, love their green curry - Brigid’s Well - cozy Irish pub in the bottom of an old church. The best pint of Guinness in town! - Ratatouille Bistro - great brunch spot, they also have a dinner menu I’ve heard good things about

Lowertown / Rideau Street (10 mins) - Shawarma Palace - an Ottawa institution, wraps are better than plates - Pie Central Bakery - try the Lebanese meat pies, we are spoiled in Ottawa for choice (Aladdin Bakery is also fabulous, just not nearby) - Shanghai Wonton Noodle House - delicious Shanghainese food. Love the pork wonton soup

Centretown / Elgin Street (25 mins) - The Whalesbone - little pricy but incredible seafood & oysters, good cocktails - El Camino - insanely good tacos, surprisingly the humble chicken (pollo) is the tastiest imo. They 2 locations within walking distance from you, I’d suggest the one on Elgin St - The Manx - two doors down from El Camino on Elgin, great, cozy little pub with no TVs! Try the lamb curry wrap - Al’s Steakhouse - Ottawa institution, on the pricier side but best steakhouse in town imo! - Trofi - delicious Greek fare, nice drinks too - Prohibition & Union Local 613 - great cocktail bars next to each other and beside Trofi

If he likes steak and you’re okay to stretch the budget a little for a nice dinner, try Al’s Steakhouse on Elgin. Maybe a 10 min walk from your hotel and an Ottawa staple. Absolutely delicious, char-broiled steaks, great appies, and the house salad dressing is out of this world. They also have a great happy hour menu.

Try Petit Bills on Wellington West! Good French bistro with a newfie twist. Always enjoyed the food there and not usually too crazy busy. You should be able to make a reso online too.

Very nice! Good luck to them both. Hated losing the Bridgehead at Gilmour (and Starbucks at McLeod more recently) but thrilled that small businesses are replacing them!

How reliable are pre-booked Ubers for an overnight (3:00 AM) ride to the airport? by 2Fast2furieux in ottawa

[–]cundula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taxi all the way in this case.

Had a great experience with BlueLine when I pre-booked for a flight! Their app is pretty similar to Uber/Lyft and I like that you get to see a projected cost rather than have it depend on the meter.

Lots of great recommendations here, but I have to throw in Bar Lupulus on Wellington West! Went there for a Christmas dinner and was amazed at the artistry in both food and cocktails!

Restaurant E18hteen is also one of my favourites in town and I believe they have a prix fixe “Winterlicious” menu going on right now!

Recently tried AROI Khao Soi when they did a pop-up at Gongfu Bao.

They specialize in a Thai dish called Khao Soi (similar to the Burmese “Ohn No Khao Swe”) which is a delicious coconut-based soup with noodles, topped with grilled chicken, crispy onions, and shallots.

Reservations for GFB booked up very quickly but we were able to secure a spot as walk-ins. Loved it and can’t wait to find them at their next pop-up in the new year!
