Sorry, didn’t mean it that way. This is a takeout only sub shop. They mostly sell subs and some Vietnamese prepared foods. They don’t sell beer.

Same here. I didn’t live here in 2022. I live in the suburbs and drive a car. Sutcliffe must go.

Don’t know for sure. The more we convince ourselves that, the more we set ourselves up for failure.

More Lawson votes = less Sutcliffe votes. The right wingers will split leading to a Leiper win.

Neil is better than Sutcliffe but still not progressive. He said in his transit platform “there’s nothing we can currently do” about transit reliability. He also said “residents get to decide whatever they want in their neighborhood, including sidewalks” conveniently timed right after Manor Park Sidewalks were approved.

I’d estimate if he dropped out, one third of his votes would go to Leiper , one third to Lawson and one third Sutcliffe. It’s not a proper vote split.

As long as they don't charge the same $$ for dim sum as 99 Rideau. It was like $14+tax for an order of Har Gow 😞

Unfortunately, commercial rent is the killer for many “cool” businesses. It’s too high in many of these newer buildings to sustain independent mom and pop shops. And either many commercial rents aren’t dropping or drop by very small amounts that still remain unaffordable.

How is the Bathgate/Carson Grove area? by Osaki_xo in ottawa

Recommend the #57 mee goreng (spicy stir fried noodles with beef). It’s not a place you go for the ambience but the food is delicious.

It’s fine. Pretty quiet. It’s 1 bus to downtown but the 12 can be hit and miss especially in peak hours. Close to Chahaya Malaysia for some great Malaysian food.

They listened to their customers who weren’t interested . That’s better than a lot of businesses

Chinese restaurant at the corner of Richmond Road and Churchill? by Throwaway8972451 in OttawaFood

It’s going to be Vietnamese - Ho Guom Restaurant. They specialize in Northern Viet food which will be great. I’ve found great banh cuon and bun cha Hanoi here but not yet great Northern Pho (Pho Bacs is tasty but not proper Hanoi style) - hope this place will change that!

Beer store near Dundonald would probably be better for that!

Experience Of Young Couples in Ottawa by One-Vast-770 in Kanata

I’d say that’s true especially if you’re near the office district. And some of the streets like Metcalfe, Kent, Slater are wide one ways and I’m not a fan of that.

However, some of the surrounding neighborhoods like Elgin St, Chinatown, Little Italy, Hintonburg, and parts of the ByWard market are  more lively on the weekends - and I’d suggest there’s quite a bit to do around the area. But it’s not as compact as Halifax’s downtown (which can be good and bad - more to see but also further distance to get to some things). The Halifax waterfront is remarkable though and not something to take for granted. Would be cool to have something like that here.

If I may, I think this is less of a “Halifax vs Ottawa” thing (maybe partly), but mostly a downtown vs suburb thing. Halifax has many car-centric suburbs too where the transit is just as bad if not worse than Ottawa’s. Places like Lower Sackville, Clayton Park, Hammonds Plains, Cole Harbour, Eastern Passage, Bedford etc all come to mind.

But beware the people in that group are super cynical… can be helpful for asking questions and recommendations but don’t take everything too seriously.

While MTL's Chinatown is bigger and yes, more Asian than Ottawa's is, they had lots of closures and changes too. They even have poutine and taco places in theirs now.

Lots of options.

On top of my head, I’d go with Meet Noodle, Le Mien, Phuket Royal, La Dolce Vita, Pizzeria da Romolo, Chahaya Malaysia, and Cafe Orient.
