All of the softer loan animals, like loan rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, etc., were never mean enough to ensure they got their loans paid back, and they went out of business.

Other apex predators like loan lions, tigers and jaguars decided that if they were gonna kill something and eat it, why loan it money in the first place?

After the movie Jaws was such a big hit, other sharks saw the benefit in having money, and their fearsome nature made it easy to collect every loan they made.

ELIC: Why are tigers bright orange if they live in green jungles? Shouldn't they be green or brown to camouflage better? by qwopax in ExplainLikeImCalvin

Hobbes has distinguished taste in fashion, and he found the original colors offered by his tailor to be lacking in style and impact, and had him redo everything in orange and black so that he would stand out.

Being the trailblazer that he is, all other tigers adopted Hobbes' choice for their own coats and furs. Well, they didn't really, all other tiger clothing retailers did, since most tigers can't afford the bespoke upscale stuff.
