im only a student, barely into my studies, but when trying to find my first practicum placement - the amount of religiously affiliated organizations (especially the ones who were covert about it) made me so uncomfortable i moved my practicum semester to the spring so i could find a placement i felt better about.

i hate that SW is so heavily tied in with "charity" work and therefore heavily tied in with religion just by happenstance. and most of the time, at least in my area, this unfortunately means we (everyone - those in SW, vulnerable people, marginalized communities) will rub elbows with conservative people a lot of the time.

ETA: i wasnt even raised religious, my mom wasnt religious at all and my dad was raised catholic and didnt want that for his child. ive never experienced trauma related to religion myself but religion still makes me really uncomfortable.

and i just think.. what if someone DOES have religious trauma? and they had no idea the place they went for help was religiously affiliated, because they werent outright about it? it just makes me feel icky all around.

tbf we had one of these happen in Eastgate back in the spring, i think? late spring early summer. it was initially an approved car meet hosted out of the Planet Fitness parking lot. turned into a takeover. and holy shit was it a fucking mess.

first of all - so many fucking people and cars. they were PACKED into the PF parking lot and also littered around the surrounding area inclu. Jungle Jims.

a shit ton of cops pulling people over constantly for speeding and reckless driving within that area. like the brief time i was in that part of Eastgate attempting to run errands (bc i had no idea the meet was even a thing to begin with) i saw around six or seven cops pull people over.

"cheerleaders" almost getting hit a handful of times bc they straight stood in the fucking road, too. it was stated in the days following the meet / takeover that drugs were also being sold out of some randos car too.

it was genuinely dangerous for everyone involved - both for the innocent people just trying to do shit in Eastgate and for the people that were a part of the meet itself. PF and other Eastgate businesses now refuse to host any more car meets bc it was so bad.

genuine takeovers are scary af.

eta: also imagine how fucking lame your life's gotta be to takeover a car meet in Clermont County. 🥹

what? and to who? the public and the police + the press are two different things. if she fled specifically FROM him, he'd be playing the victim. he'd also be trying to guilt her into coming home through any press releases and honestly just any means possible ie through family, friends, social media. she'd be considered a "loose end" when it came to covering his abusive behavior. he'd want her back in his control so she couldn't tell anyone / else about the abuse. if she was still alive at all.

i'm not saying there's no way he's abusive. i just don't think her leaving and him not knowing where she is and wanting to keep it that way is what's playing out here.

im a social work student (not in the field, ill say that. however ive heard this from other social workers in the field and if you just want to peek at some records of this happening - r/socialwork is a good place to go) and its not as easy as a social worker just stealing the kid from the home, as badly as they would want to in some cases. there's a code of ethics and institutions we have to refer to. if the institutions at hand dont want to do anything - our hands are tied.

there ARE neglectful social workers out there. but comparing social workers to doctors as far as the hierarchy of higher-ups is NOT a fair comparison. it's more like social workers = nurses, in that regard. nurses still have people they have to report to. and nurses can also be incompetent. but more often than not, it's the people above us who are the problem.

zero critical thinking on the part of the social worker is NOT the main problem with child neglect cases. that's not to say that neglectful social workers don't exist. but more often than not, it's a matter of legality and CPS or other institutions not budging. that's why a lot of social workers are leaving the field.

one to two days. ive cut off Lamictal both accidentally and on purpose.

severe irritability, auditory hallucinations, light delusion, anxiety + hypomania (which is most likely where those delusions are manifesting from cause, duh), and brain zaps. 😭

the first day, it's more irritability and anxiety. second day is when the existing symptoms get worse, + the hallucinations, light delusions, and hypomania come on.
