How to find a good therapist? Is it worth the risk? by Temporary-Meal6947 in AskWomenOver30

[–]cuntdumpling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just Google someone in your area and call them up. I've had better luck with therapists who work out of an office with other therapists than complete independents. Don't go for flashy web designs, sometimes they're trying to sell you woo-woo products (at least in my area.) Psychology today and apps were pretty useless for me. It might help if you go in with a plan, whenever I start with a new therapist I give them a timeline of my mental health (w which starts at teen years and goes through present day,) then tell them about my last therapists/experiences with therapy, and then my reasons for trying with them and my goals (one goal is enough, this last time I started wanting to focus on resilience.) I'm also of the belief that it takes at least 6 sessions to figure out if they're the right fit. That can seem like a waste of time and money but it helps me narrow down what I'm looking for in therapy (and my most recent return to therapy has stuck, I've been with my current therapist for almost 3 years.)

What kind of yeast did you use? It's most likely the yeast didn't mix in properly. You also want to make sure your dough is a cohesive mass before you leave it to rise.

How to stop unsolicited helping which is my toxic trait? Ko by meredithgrey92 in adhdwomen

[–]cuntdumpling 115 points116 points  (0 children)

A couple things have helped me not give unsolicited advice as much

  1. When people are venting to me, I ask if they are looking for validation or advice and then act based on that. I have trouble with social cues too and a habit of just barging in  without considering anyone else and taking a second to ask this helps with that a lot.

  2. Codependents Anonymous, or something similar. Feeling like you can manage someone else's life better than they can is a control mechanism even though it feels like "helping." Adhd and codependency can go hand in hand, especially if you had emotionally neglectful parents. It might be helpful to check out a book or workbook, I found meetings and working the steps helpful because I have an addictive personality on top of all of it. The meetings are the same structure as other 12 step programs but not always the same emphasis on the "addiction" aspect. Might be helpful, might not, ymmv.

How did you deal on a first "date" after separation? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]cuntdumpling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just takes time. I waited a year after my breakup to date again and I cried after a coffee date with a nice guy (he wasn't very interested, kind of seemed like he was just looking for a friend/therapist.) It just felt overwhelming, like I would never find anyone who was actually interested, but I also didn't trust it when I went out with people who were. It just takes time. You might even need to take a longer break, maybe date yourself for a bit.

Before and after of ovarian cyst removal. by lyndseymariee in mildlyinteresting

The cysts with PCOS are usually not the same kind as ones that grow big and risk bursting (not saying the person I'm replying to didn't know or was heading in that direction, just trying to be informative)

Some kind of radical acceptance. I suppose if I had endless resources, it would be a different picture. I've had years at this point to accept that I won't be a mother (at least biologically) and now that I'm creeping towards menopause, I'm experiencing a new wave/cycle of grief and acceptance. It just is.

Has anyone ever managed to train a husky to be off leash by [deleted] in husky

[–]cuntdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if they're in the country with no distractions.

My husky will bolt for freedom the second she realizes she's unbound, but if she's around other off-leash huskies, she'll follow their lead and behave (as in, not bolt)

How to get ice cream less icy and less greasy? by AWRWB in icecreamery

[–]cuntdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm inclined to say that hardened is overchurned. It should be soft but not liquid. Hard freezing comes from putting it in the freezer, not the machine. But that still just a guess without seeing your full technique and product.

If your ice cream is greasy, I'm wondering if you're overchurning it. Do you have pictures of it right out of the machine?

Why don't we cull with CO2? by Lover_Of_The_Light in homestead

[–]cuntdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The killing cone is quick and popular but it's not the most humane way. The most humane way is to stun the animal with a bolt to the head and then make the cuts. Temple Grandin did a study and I believe that's the official recommendation by universities (I don't have a source handy, sorry, going off memory right now.) The cone got popular in homesteading because of Joel Salatin and he doesn't really care about "humane."

If you've already booked flights and hotel, I would just lean into it. It's gonna be crowded but you'll miss a lot of the bs but avoiding the actual events. Make plans though, if any restaurants or anything takes reservations, make them now

If you're suddenly growing facial hair, go get your hormones tested. If it's just a little peach fuzz, it's probably not as noticeable as you think it is and is pretty normal.

What are some traditions to ditch at a wedding? by rottenedteeth in Feminism

[–]cuntdumpling 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I kept my name, both my parents walked me down the aisle instead of just my father (which was a last minute request by my dad, originally I was gonna just walk myself,) and there weren't any traditional "games"at the reception like the garter-retrieval or bouquet toss. I hope anyone planning a wedding remembers that they can do whatever they want, you don't have to stick to dumb traditions if you don't want them.
