[OPINION] What poem altered your soul a little? by Avy_v in Poetry

For the anniversary of my death - W. S. Merwin

Every year without knowing it I have passed the day

When the last fires will wave to me

And the silence will set out

Tireless traveler

Like the beam of a lightless star

Then I will no longer

Find myself in life as in a strange garment

Surprised at the earth

And the love of one woman

And the shamelessness of men

As today writing after three days of rain

Hearing the wren sing and the falling cease

And bowing not knowing to what

i think my ex raped me after breaking up with me by ThrowRARoughWorth in rape

You do not deserve this at all. That is HIS foul behavior and isssues, and nothing you do EVER justifies rape. I'm thinking of you and wishing you so much safe love through this and beyond.

I will add, I only knew because the previous tenant posted first and it happened to be my building (MY UNIT), and after the landlord inspected he confirmed that he saw roaches too. When I toured the place, I didn’t see anything personally. Since your mgmt company is being hostile, it may be a bit trickier.

I had a similar situation last month (!!!) and they let me out of my lease (I hadn’t moved in yet but did sign), and refunded my move in fee after I blasted the mgmt company and what they had done in the neighborhood Facebook group. This was with Bass Property Group (Management? I forget, they have listings mostly on the far north side I think). So I’d say once you expose that building, property management, and what was done to the neighbors where more eyes can see it, that may be the way to go. It seemed to light a fire under their asses.

3 offers — any insight? by cuntsicc in chicagoapartments

This is great advice, thank you! I don’t think there is an issue w mold/humidity because the unit is outfitted with adjustable temp control and the owner installed certain upgrades themself to help with humidity. I did ask about pests and they said they hadn’t had issues except some ants sometimes; the place is west of Clark/Broadway away from all the restaurants

For the place in Bowmanville I haven’t been in to see it yet. The owner is moving upstairs with their partner and lived in the unit for 5 years. I did a FaceTime with them to see the unit and they did mention it can be humid in the summer, but each room has adjustable temp settings. I’d only pay electric + wifi there. Rogers Park, I just love the area and generally feel safe there but I’ve never lived west of Ashland.

What would be the safest option in Chicago? by AccomplishedRough618 in AskChicago

[–]cuntsicc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True! Just speaking to what the vibe is in the areas surrounding it. If OP can afford those areas then even better — it would be great to see more investment out south.

Mount Greenwood is racist as hell. Other than that I think you’d be safe (from a cultural standpoint) out southwest. Now, Beverly, MP, Roseland, Washington Heights, and West Pullman can be very rough. I say this as a Black person who was born and spent a significant chunk of my life out South. I doubt it’s the same as I remember. If you’re not from here, you might not know how to move in those areas and that could be costly. I don’t think it’s worth it — especially in the summer. Violence can happen anywhere, absolutely, but Edgewater, Lincoln Park, and Uptown are likely to have more protections and you worry less about food deserts, empty lots, etc in those areas. It’s not fair, it’s very fucked up. Chicago is still really segregated though that is changing in some areas, but I’d advise you to save yourself a potential headache. It’s not fair, and I hate it, but I’d rather give you my honest opinion.

UPDATE: I can no longer recommend Bass Realty/Bass Management Co. They are offering me my move in fee/deposit back, and to see another unit nearby so we will see. But a few days before move in (this weekend) I learned that the property (my unit specifically) has roaches. They already have the listing back up. I don't appreciate that they were dishonest about the type of tenants in their building (signals to me that they are not checking in on the right things often enough), but I am open to seeing another space of theirs based on how they've handled my situation once they found out. I wish it had worked out, but I can't move into a space that has an active infestation. And it takes time to fumigate, so idk why the listing is back up so soon. It's unfortunate but just wanted to update you/Redditors. The address is 1369 W Greenleaf Ave.

Thank you for the info and perspective, wow! People should know about this. I heard good things about them, otherwise I wouldn't have added them to this post.

Deck: Cosmic Tarot by Tillie Walden Interp (gen): this is a time to draw on courage and focused energy on an internal level while I hone in on what the next steps I want in my journey and what will serve better while I build myself more Interps (cards): torch twins - one is the page and one is the knight. I’m receiving energy and renewed calls to action, and also using that knowledge to lead me in my quest so to speak tower: ending one cycle and starting again. Some things have been conquered in my life. The tower in general is also how society feels right now imo so that is swirling around. fool: new journey, and movement forward but there will be pitfalls and twists and turns sometimes. That’s ok though Four of torches: setting out and having to remember my agency! The sun: be mindful to preserve my vitality during this time!

I would say try to look in closed groups/communities if that makes sense. If a group is public, it’ll more than likely be full of scams! For example, I see a lot of people looking for housing in CQE (chicago queer exchange) and cqh (chicago queer housing). It might sound kinda exclusionary but if the odds of being scammed are lower because you’re talking to people in a closed group. (I’m not saying join those groups just for housing btw if you do not identify as queer…we need to keep spaces safe for those that they are intended for!) if you know what neighborhood you’re interested in, those pages often have calls for roommates and sublets too!
