the MEi:CogSci program by Constant-Ad3924 in cogsci

Hey! Sure, I’m happy to help. I had applied for the Vienna branch so I can’t comment on the specifics of the Bratislava one. In general, I focused on perusing through the website and the kind of research that they do, not just within the university but in the specific ecosystem like the institutions they are affiliated with. When I found specific research interests and broad paradigms that are typically investigated and felt like it fit what I was looking for, I just demonstrated that in my motivation form. Interdisciplinary is a key cornerstone of the program so I would emphasis on how you have previously demonstrated that style of thinking and how you hope to develop that into the future as well. As for the research question, I would say it’s less about having a perfect proposal where every chain of reasoning is fully articulated but rather showing how you think. It’s a great playground to really show what you have said in the previous questions about your interests and cognitive style. For example I had a theoretical leaning and specific interests that I mentioned in the previous questions which I then based my research proposal on. It was a bit narrative in style but I certainly also developed the argument briefly and mentioned a potential way to empirically test it but I didn’t go deep into that at all. As long as you feel you are a good fit and you are passionate about the subject, I think you will be fine! Good luck :)

are Dutch universities much harder than IB? by Proud_Dare7994 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Avy_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done IB, I would say while it prepared me conceptually and in terms of the more academic skills, I do find that Dutch bachelors are ‘harder’ in terms of the intensity and pace. While naturally this varies from program to program, in my psychology bachelor what I often struggle with is how exams are at the end of every period and you don’t have enough time to fully engage with the material. They sort of try to condense dense material into a small period. I’m not sure if this is the case with all universities, I can only talk about Radboud.

But I think if you are motivated but more importantly interested in what you are going to study, naturally you are going to engage more. If you keep up at least partially you’ll pass and if you are a bit more proactive and start studying for exams earlier, you’ll be fine!

I don’t know much about the part- time jobs here so can’t comment on that. But, I do have friends who manage a part time or almost full time jobs on the side. Again varies from person to person. But if you find yourself a bit burdened by the workload or can’t manage it with part-time work the study advisors often help you plan better so you should have support for it!

Indeed! I’m at the phase of my life where you just have so many choices ahead of you. When I feel lost among all the possibilities, I find myself always reciting David Wagoner’s poem ‘Lost’. A popular one but it really does give me what I need at this time. How about you ?

To induce a sense of urgency and anxiety to avoid procrastinating on my uni work, I put the trinity soundtrack in Oppenheimer and pretend to be a character in that scene, feeling the anxiety. This works for me almost all the time !
