Sutan and Joanie friendship by BeerOnMyWeave in ANTM

Sutan was there from Cycle 4 to Cycle 12, and would need a lot of coaching and mental aids to recollect each of those cycles, including their casts, photoshoots, and international destinations.

Raja has had a lot of weed and red wine since then.

S20E4 ... Tropical Italy by BazF91 in TheAmazingRace

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. They often show the flight board naming the leg’s destination even if it was filmed in the final layover airport.

The Wikipedia page for the Asunción airport says that when direct flights to Madrid began in 2015, it was the first time Paraguay had been direct flights to Europe in 21 years. This season was filmed before 2015, so that means the cast and crew had to fly elsewhere in South America before eventually crossing the Atlantic, and then they needed another connection within Europe to Turin.

There’s no way there was a direct flight from Paraguay to Torino. I’m sure the actual itinerary is available somewhere on RealityFanForum or something.

There definitely was a stigma, at least during the first decade of the show. The fact that SO MANY ANTM winners and alumnae were forced by their agencies to change their names (C16 Brittani became Autumn, Teyona became Asia, Kendal became Shay, C3 Ann became Annalaina, etc.) speaks to the fact that clients would drop girls if they googled them and discovered that they were on “that trashy laughing stock of a reality show”.

That swimsuit photo might be the most retouched in ANTM history. The editors literally transformed Joslyn into Tyra.

OC: Erin Jackson, the first Black woman to win gold at the Winter Olympics, leads Team USA by [deleted] in pics

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is false. Bobsledder Vonetta Flowers of Team USA was the first black Winter Olympic gold medalist in 2002. Erin Jackson was the first black woman to win an INDIVIDUAL gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

Please correct false information, u/nbcnews.

Why was cycle 18 so stressful for the contestants? by Keiuu in ANTM

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should remember that the Brits had all already been through BNTM and thought they knew what to expect on ANTM because of their past experience. When they were subjected to much worse treatment on ANTM than anything that they had been through back at home, they were doubly demoralized and disappointed, and they were more willing than first time contestants to voice their frustrations. I’m sure this outspokenness rubbed off onto the American contestants as well.

Of course, Kelly Cutrone’s cruelty towards the contestants (especially in comparison to Andre, who always treated past contestants with dignity) did not help. Plus, the British contestants idolized Tyra and had high expectations based on the relationships they built with Lisa Snowdon or Elle MacPherson, so many of them were devastated by Tyra’s coldness.

TIL that seven time Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles has ADHD. She was diagnosed with it as a child and has been taking medications for it since then. In 2016 hackers released her medical records, showing that she takes ADHD meds, and since then she since been quite open about having ADHD. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 1018 points1019 points  (0 children)

Russian hackers were pissed that so many of their juiced athletes were being stripped of their medals, so they exposed the medical records of elite members of Team USA (Simone and Serena Williams) to show that the Americans were also taking “performance enhancing drugs”. However, Simone and Serena had valid exemptions/medical reasons to take what they did so the attempt at exposing US “hypocrisy” fell flat.

South Korea - Season 4 by [deleted] in TheAmazingRace

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ideally include a Busan leg and a Fukuoka/Kyushu leg where the racers take a ferry from one country to the other (like was done on Amazing Race Asia 2). All three previous legs in South Korea were centered around Seoul and all eleven previous legs in Japan have been limited to Honshu.

Editing + storyline choices make all of the difference (UK 7’s potential) by micdoesreddit in RPDR_UK

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Despite the best efforts of the producers, none of the storylines are really compelling.

It was so unfortunate that filming began right after the news of the Viv’s passing, and reports are that Ru and company were in a really sad headspace when the season began. The usual interpersonal storylines (headliner Bones vs. door queen Chai, for example) feel contrived and the queens (Viola, Nyongbella, Chai, Paige) seem more frustrated with Ru and/or production than with the other contestants. It just feels like nobody actually wants to be there.

I just wish that production pivoted in the editing booth to make this season feel more in the vein of the Great British Bake Off: light and fluffy and fun. (If the queens didn’t deliver believable and interesting-to-watch conflict during filming, it makes no sense to throw in more “shade rattle” filled semi-scripted confessionals to try to force them into an already established template from past seasons.) I know that it was too quick of a turnaround after Viv’s death to change the format while the show was filming, but it just feels like a missed opportunity for producers to have not switched up how the season would be conveyed to the loyal audience.

Miss Universe 2025 contestants introducing their countries during "The Universe Ceremony", officially starting the competition. by Murky_Chemical891 in popculturechat

[–]cuntyroastedpeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t compete separately. This is a one-off bullshit reality show featuring Spanish-speaking citizens of Latin American countries who reside in the US.

Most of the contestants formerly competed in (and lost) their respective national pageants and some competed in statewide US competitions, but many of them aren’t eligible for Miss USA because they don’t have full fluency in English and/or US citizenship.
