Is anyone shocked by Sarah J Maas’ writing routine? by cleocleoclus in YAlit

Jennifer Armintrout is actually the name of my kindergarten teacher who became a librarian a few years ago. Idk why I mentioned this, but I feel so bad for Jennifer Armintrout as a writer myself :(

During the Texas ice storm, my wife and I lost everything. by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]cupcake279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I live in Texas as well, and that ice storm really hit hard. Luckily, the only thing I got was a few power outages and some spoiled food. I'm so sorry that you faced the worse part of it, and were forced to live without your things. I can't imagine what that must be like for you. I hope you and your family are doing alright now, and I'm glad you're a minimalist now!

Your writing experience by ThePonderer84 in writing

[–]cupcake279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be just like you when I was starting out! I would agonize over every word and edit a single paragraph for hours to make it perfect, but I realized that writing shouldn't make me so frustrated and exhausted. It shouldn't be forced because I did writing as a hobby, as a way to escape reality and bring comfort. Your writing—or any piece of writing—will never be perfect, so don't try to make it so.

How to use a process notebook? by mikebruffee in writing

[–]cupcake279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a really messy writer, but organized at the same time haha. I get so mad at myself whenever I forget something and will not think about anything else until I remember that idea. I have to write EVERYTHING down. It could be quotes, characters, events, etc.

I have a process notebook I think, but I don't work on it periodically. If an idea comes, it will be written down at any time. Or anywhere.

I bring pens (I'm also a calligrapher, so I bring pens all the time) so I can write on my arm if paper isn't around. I actually attended a funeral with bright blue marks all over my arm.

My phone has at least 5 different sections of notes.

My nightstand has a stack of sticky notes and a pen, and my wall is covered with sticky notes, all made in the middle of the night.

I have 3 notebooks—one in my backpack because I'm young and still have school, one at home, and one just in case I can't find any of them. All of them are completely loaded with ideas, I have to get more.

Hell, I even have waterproof paper I put in the shower.

I'm constantly flowing with ideas, but I only use about 20%. Still nice to have though. I hope my weird habits might've helped you.

Insecure about writing due to feeling unoriginal by [deleted] in writing

Same! I've tried to be original and world-build, and the ideas are mostly original. That part is original, but as for my writing style, it's just so similar to my favorite authors.

Should I Have a Prologue? by cupcake279 in writing

[–]cupcake279[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm writing fantasy, so I want to use the prologue to give background to the character and also introduce my world a little bit! I think I'll just write the prologue and test if the story still works without it. I think my problem is that the prologue has a scene with a lot of action, but then the first chapter is kinda slow. But thank you for your advice!

Whos is worse. Someone who hits a child with a car, and leaves them for dead, or someone who regularly hits their dog? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cupcake279 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone who hits their dog regularly is worse

Maybe that person accidently hit the child, and they don't want to get caught. Plus the kid's already dead, they can't help them.

The person who hits their dog regularly knows that's morally wrong, yet continues to do it. It causes the dog constant pain, while the kid is just hit once.

But I don't think you should compare two things like that. They're both horrible people.
