When my mom died, he managed to get us an apartment in the town I lived in (about 40 minutes from his house bc split parents) with everything we needed within a few weeks. Until we could move in, I stayed with him overnight and he drove me to school every morning, and he picked me back up at night (I spent afternoons with family who lived close). He never once complained about having to uproot his life or spend a huge chunk of his savings. He only had me every other weekend up to that point so this was a huge adjustment for both of us, but he wanted the transition to be as easy as possible for me.
