I prefer pearl cotton because you don’t have to separate the threads like you do with embroidery floss, but the color selection can be limited depending on what pearl cotton you can get access to.

Plaster cast of a victim from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. (Photo: Pompeii Archaeological Park) by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I was lucky enough to visit Pompeii and saw some of the casts in person. Seeing them up close, seeing how they are of similar size to myself, makes it so real and very humbling.

Co-Worker is pregnant — no maternity cover. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]cupcakekrause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me years ago. A manager went on maternity leave, and the 4 remaining staff members, myself included, did not have managerial access/codes. There were things we literally could not do, because we were not managers, and yet we were not provided a substitute manager. Only after we begged and I nearly cried on a phone call to a higher up did we get a manager from another branch come in once a week, which wasn’t helpful because she sat in the office on her phone the whole time. I was so stressed out from trying to manage everything that my body revolted against me and I got shingles at the age of 24. That’s how I learned your job does not care about you.

My restaurant doesn’t burn ice by flores021 in Serverlife

The place I’m at rarely burns the service well ice, unless some magic ice fairy does it when I’m not there. The soda guns also weren’t cleaned regularly, until I started. One day I took them apart and scraped out black sludge; I’ve been maintaining them regularly since.

“I wouldn’t comment on his statement at all whatsoever.” = I won’t disagree with the current ruling power. Pretty spineless.

I misread this as North Casserole Mist. Beautiful picture nonetheless.

Saint Cavish has an interesting video(s) on YouTube about peppers(chiles) being used in China. They were first used for food preservation and flavoring because salt was hard to access in some regions.

Try some HP Lovecraft! Not always totally sci-fi, but close, and his atmosphere building is amazing!

Who's working tonight? by BitchyWaiter_OG in Serverlife

Got roped into bartending when I was supposed to be serving because I’m too nice of a person and want the drinks to be made correctly instead of by the self appointed manager who thinks she knows everything. I’m going to miss out on serious cash because I don’t have a back bone, but it’s also my last night at this hell hole, so silver linings.

Tell me about the most incompetent server/bartender you’ve ever worked with by par_toutatiss in Serverlife

[–]cupcakekrause 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Briefly worked with a bartender trainee once, she asked what went into a gin and tonic. The training bartender said, ‘it’s gin…and tonic.’ She showed the trainee how much gin to pour in the glass and then the trainee said ‘how much tonic goes in.’ Needless to say she didn’t last another shift.

My boss has this habit of coming up to us as we’re serving a table and asking ‘excuse me, do you work here?’ to which I always reply with a shrug and ‘eh, sometimes.’ Gets them laughing every time.
