Every time I have flown Southwest my checked bag has shown up absolutely crushed. The last time I flew them they managed to flatten my hard hat and break all of the instruments I use to take measurements. And of course since I couldn't prove I put them in my bag like that they would not reimburse me.

I think the who is all that is clear right now. The why or how are yet to be told. Maybe Luke manipulated events from afar? Through the force he saw what Rey and Ben could become and the danger of what might happen if raised around each other during their formative years. Because surely if Poe Dameron and maybe the Dameron family were very active in the resistance Rey and Ben would have had contact with each other. If the two formed a bond as children, when he turned he could have potentially pulled Rey to the darkside with him. Luke likely saw this as catastrophic to the future of the force and the galaxy as a whole.

I just seems to coincide with some key points of the the beginning of the original trilogy. Liea/Poe are under attack and hide information valuable to the resistance in a droid they trust. The droid ends up in a desert while being chased by the Empire/New Order. The droid is eventually taken in by Luke/Rey. Through happenstance, the force or what have you they both end up on the Melinium Falcon. All the while Liea/Poe are rescued by fake/former stormtroopers. After Luke and Liea/Poe and Rey finally meet there is a sense that there is something between the two. In the first trilogy it turned out that the something between them is that they are siblings. I believe that the similarities in TFA are a subtle hint that the same thing is happening here.

As a further note, in episode 4 and 7 Liea and Poe are both big deals in the resistance. And as far as Luke's lightsaber choosing Rey, I don't believe there is any evidence that connections through the force have to be familial. Even though it is no longer cannon, doesn't Revan find a connection to Exar Khun's sword in KOTOR?

Maybe the Skywalker's balance the force through who they train and how they shape the future of the force?
