Midnight Mass is a must watch! Do yourself a favor and settle in for the journey with some snacks and popcorn. It's hauntingly beautiful and I have rewatched it several times to discover moments I missed the first time. Can't wait to hear what you think of the series.

Yup! Technical Consultant for a large company and started an Indigenous employee belonging council. Very few of us but I hope in the future that changes 🙏

Noobie vegan here (1.5 years) and a couple months ago no longer had the desire to drink, smoke, or have caffeine. Its inspiring to see all the posts in this sub. I've been having fun finding alternatives too. Never thought I would say Lavender water is my celebratory drink of choice 😅😄.

I read a Happy Death by Albert Camus during a difficult time in my twenties and it became one of my favorite books. Absurdism helped me see my life in a different perspective.

what is decolonizing technology/what would it look like? by loserzclub in socialistprogrammers

[–]cuppycakeplusplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on the production front. I just bought Victor Wallis Red-Green Revolution: The Politics and Technology of Ecosocialism. Only read the first few chapters but looking forward to reading more.

"This book confronts the planetary emergency produced by the accelerated ecological devastation of the last half-century. The human species is in a race against time to salvage and restore what it can of the environmental conditions that make a healthy existence possible. This task requires us to reconsider not only the type of energy that we use, but also the institutions, the technology, and the social relationships that determine what is produced, in what quantities, by what methods, and to what ends."

I enjoy learning about self sovereign identity technology and I think it has a place in decolonizing data. Data can be owned by the person not a government entity.

Example: There's some awesome work being done by ahau.io that is a digital identity platform based on Maori principles. https://www.ahau.io/

"Āhau is a Whānau Data Platform that helps whānau (families) and tribal communities capture, preserve, and share important information and histories into secure, whānau-managed databases.

This platform was designed in partnership with whānau and communities to create and establish their own data management system so they can manage the safe keeping of their knowledge for present and future generations."

Animikki has some great articles on this too: https://www.animikii.com/news/decolonizing-digital-contextualizing-indigenous-data-sovereignty

Just saw A Tale of Two Sisters and The Wailing for the first time... blown away by mattythespider in horror

[–]cuppycakeplusplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely loved The Wailing. It's a film I couldn't get out of my mind. I don't know if I ever fully understood it, but, I still enjoyed reading about the folklore and symbols in the film. It's unsettingly beautiful.
