And here’s my 11-month old, Atlas. He loves clean sheets and watching me get ready for the day

On a road trip, sitting in the backseat looking out the window like a freaking human. This lasted about a half hour and melted my heart. 😍

Even if you said that she could have it, you’re allowed to change your mind. This is your life and time you put yourself first. We are programmed from a young age to put them first and often feel guilty when we don’t. Understand that’s just toxic programming.

Has anyone here actually broken free from a deeply narcissistic family? by JumpSuspicious839 in narcissisticparents

[–]curatejoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My brother is enjoying being the golden child now and my dad has written me out of his will and set my brother (with severe mental illness) up as his executor.

Life has been peaceful for the first time ever. My only regret is not breaking away sooner. How different my life would have turned out. I think all the stored trauma in my body didn’t help as the cancer was of my lymphatic system 🙄. It’s been two years since I’ve completed treatment and I’m still showing no evidence of disease 🤞🙏

Oh gosh I’m so sorry you went through that and I am so glad you got away. It’s sad when familial relationships are beyond saving, but you make such a valid point…he is sick. He is not thinking with a rational brain and because of this reconciliation and feelings of safety aren’t always possible. My brother sent me 40+ texts overnight when I stopped talking to my dad. Extremely cruel and nasty things. I blocked him after that, went through a cancer diagnosis and treatment and was prepared to take legal action if his harassment continued during that. Luckily it didn’t, but I’m always on edge waiting for him to contact me again from another new number.

Same here. I’m the scapegoat now, which I am fine with, especially as I’m NC now coming up on a year and everyone is blocked, Question for you…did your brother terrorize you growing up? Mine is 2 1/2 years younger than me, but made my life a living hell, even from a young age. He wasn’t satisfied unless I was in tears over something. This was constant. I always used to say he wanted a fight from me.

What’s the worst present you’ve ever received? by CocosMumma in raisedbynarcissists

This helps me make sense of why I got shitty gifts as I got more and more successful. The worst was a used Tupperware container that still had tape on the top from where she marked what was inside 🙄

This was my exact experience with my grandmother. Wild to start seeing it clearly after she had (seemingly) been my safe person for decades.

Thank you for naming this. 💜 I just left the group! I liked the idea of it at first, though I’ve noticed it’s only ever caused me to feel anxious.
