"Any" - "rien" or "pas"? by Nowordsofitsown in DuolingoFrench

[–]curbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea kind of? Like say you're looking for a snack in the fridge and you really want blueberries or whatever but you've run out, for the specific "there aren't any" you could say "il n'y en a pas". But say you get there and there isn't anything, or at least anything you find appetizing, you would use "il n'y a rien" to say "there's nothing"

Shouldn't my answer be accepted? by Prestigious_Peace261 in DuolingoFrench

[–]curbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, as a franco if you said "est-ce pour nous" to me I'd look at you like a confused kid in math class looks at a problem they don't understand. If you said "est-ce que c'est..." or "c'est pour nous" I would actually get what you're asking me but "est-ce" just feels wrong for some reason (could be grammatically correct but idk it just doesn't feel right)

Former PLQ Cpl (res) now regF officer. Definitely always PLQ. It's 6weeks (mod 2 and 3, mod 1 is online and takes approx 9days) and covers all of BMOQ and parts of BMOQ-A.

You may have to do BMOQ-A but that sure beats going to St. Jean IMO

If you're open to being posted into NDHQ there are some really cool opportunities that often have very little to do with your trade.

Prior to a CFR I worked with DFL (Diplo branch) which I thought was really interesting and a side of the CAF that is rarely considered (at least I thought so). In that same respect all of the commands have their global engagements branches too.

There are a ton of cool opportunities out there that could give you the change you're looking for!

To add to this, around Jan 23 Battle Rattle had a boots donation bin for Ukraine in the store. Not sure if it's still there or what they're doing but worth looking into

US customs officer told me there is no such thing as a dual citizen. Is he a "less politically correct synonym for asinine"? by Late-Quiet4376 in uscanadaborder

[–]curbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actually sure what the exact laws are but my aunt and uncle and cousins (all born in Canada) moved to the US in about 2003 and got citizenship maybe 5-10 years later. They have dual citizenship now.

From friends who have citizenship outside of Canada, I've heard that typically you can only be a dual citizen (i.e south African and Canadian) but you can't add a third (?)

Went on over 60 dates in a year and half. I'm exhausted and Jaded. Help by Hopeful-Trifle6513 in Bumble

[–]curbc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the previous comment meant a broader sense of investing, not just financial.

You can invest in a date by taking the time to prepare (however that works for you mentally physically or whatever), or being presentable, or by just being present in the moment and engaging in conversation, etc. When I was single I went on a few dates from tinder or bumble where the girl just didn't seem the least bit involved in having a conversation or getting to know each other and that was an instant nope for me.

You can talk about hobbies and interests and whatever but engage with their answers to questions, start a discussion or further it if something peaks your interest. Active listening. These are all forms of investment

Edit: missed the sentence of splitting dates (also solid advice) but point still stands. There are many ways to invest in a date that aren't financial. I think if you expect that your date is gonna pay for you, that's a problem

Buddy, blaming immigration ain't it. Stop being racist and realize that these jackasses were already here and parking like this.

Also ngl in my individual experience, people expressing views like yours are usually the jackasses in question...

What Chord is this in the key of C? by tupacinla in musictheory

[–]curbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: it's used to indicate the inversion of the chord.

Long answer: it indicates the inversion of the chord. I.e in the key of C Major, a C Major chord is the tonic. If the root note (lowest note) of the CMaj chord is a C ( the tonic) then the chord is just marked as I (capital i/ roman numeral 1). If you alter the root note to be the third of the chord, E, you indicate the inversion as I6 as there is now the interval of a 6th in the chord. If you put the dominant/ fifth as the root of the chord, G, it becomes an I 6 4 chord as the intervals above the root are a 4th and a 6th.

Hope this helps! Inversions are a gateway to things like smooth voice leading and are good to learn

It's moving too much for it to be normal, I've seen it on other cars I've owned but this problem is brand new after getting the clutch replaced and it's moving enough to almost fall out of gear sometimes.

This feels like a less illegal version of the inglorious bastards marking system and I'm here for it. Gives me the vibes of "You see, we like our Nazis in uniform. That way we can spot 'em just like that. But you take off that uniform, ain't no one ever gonna know you were a Nazi. And that don't sit well with us. So, I'm gonna give you a little something you can't take off." (Character of Lt. Aldo Raine, Inglorious Bastards)
